No not that one about dodgy bike service.

In the last year, I've found their prices to be rather competitive, to down right bonkers if you order on line for collection or delivery.

Car service parts, way more competitive than many of the well known car part's suppliers. Then 'Halfords' do an on-line offer - 35% off parts that are already discounted - got two filters for half the price of one from another company.

Anyway, they aren't carrying the stock. The brake pads I bought recently (click and collect in an hour) had actually come into the store from Euro Car parts, and were sat on the counter with the delivery note. The price from ECP was almost double what I paid.

Just ordered some bike tyres. 50% cheaper than other suppliers. Opted for delivery as it was going to be delivered days quicker than the goods would reach the store. Stock coming direct from the wholesaler - Laguna Leisure.

It just shows, a quick google to compare prices, and Halfords are often much cheaper than else where if ordered on-line. You'll get stung just walking into the shop though.

Yeh, got their big 'Advanced' socket set for a tidy sum. I won't look at the 'bikes' unless there is a silver and lime green gravel bike that I can say it's just my Boardman FS Pro - MrsF won't know the difference.

They will even price-match in-Store!

Yesterday I stupidly just insisted on paying the online price (already £3 cheaper than the shelf price), I'm sure I could have got cheaper by googling for a few minutes.

I also get a Student Beans discount, then I can get another discount via work's 'voucher' scheme - those two knock about 15% off. It's just a bit of a faff. Log into Student Beans, ask for discount code. Then log into work, and buy a virtual gift voucher for another 8% off. But, it soon adds up.

I got busted when MrsF went into the garage to get some toys out for my niece's kids. Niece says 'oh you've a lot of bikes in here'. MrsF counts...hmm there is one more than I thought. The 'wheel' upgrade trick works though. It may be why I have a number of Mavic wheelsets. Aksium, Ksyrium and Cosmic - they 'look' the same...

Motor parts in general are very rarely carried in stock these days even by the manufacturers distribution network.

It's just bonkers the exact same part was twice the price at Euro, and Euro delivered it to Halfords for me to collect. Just shows sometimes.

One of the reasons I chose my van/car, is that it's based on a very common vehicle and the 'platform' is also shared by many cars from the group, so parts can be had very cheaply, even the OEM quality stuff.

Like you, I get a discount with vouchers from a work scheme, but unlike many others, the Halfords ones are not reloadable, so unless what yu are buying is an exact number of pounds, you end up wasting a bit iof it.

When I was looking at bikes there (I know, I know) the website that the staff had access to was obviously absolutely shocking. If they searched for a particular brand of bike they got back a list of all the ones that had that name for years and years, so all the old, discontinued models. The only way they could find a particular bikes was to know it's model number.

It was little surprise that when I next went in the mechanic had left.

See it all the time we buy some parts from the actual manufacturer and we also buy same part but in the engine makers box and the variations are crazy

Like a number of bike stores, important to check for discounts like British Cycling and Blue Light Card.

Crazy how their online price is so often cheaper than just walking in.

Think they are doing free delivery on bike bits currently, something that rarely happens these days unless you're spending over ~£60.
