On the subject of beaver fur, this hat's description doesn't say which fur it's made from. Going off the price it's much less than the beaver fur one, so I think it'll be rabbit fur.

Personally, I wouldn't buy ANY fur hat of the type that sits on the head.

Hats generally don't need the warmth of fur (I wouldn't generally describe things like balaclavas as "hats"), so there is no real excuse, even when the animal is farmed and killed as much for the meat as for the fur.

I found and bought this one in the retro clothing shop yesterday. Three quid for what looks and feels like a 1960's silk cravat.

It's more olive green than the photo shows.

I actually have a silk cravat from the 60s that was my dad's ... for many many years now, it's been part of my very amateur and inept Dracula get-up for Hallowe'en (though I haven't actually done this for about 8 yrs now)

Come warmer weather I'm going to wear white socks with sandals. Yes, I know it's mocked, but I feel uncomfy going almost barefoot, unless it's a very hot day and I'm out walking, not out shopping and stuff. I think white sports socks are ok, but not sure about patterned 'dress' type socks.

I actually have a silk cravat from the 60s that was my dad's ... for many many years now, it's been part of my very amateur and inept Dracula get-up for Hallowe'en (though I haven't actually done this for about 8 yrs now)

I don't have a Cravat, though I do have this rather fetching item of neckwear I got in a "Goody Bag " from a race.

Disappointing jumper news as despite owning one in this size from the same manufacturer I think this new one is just a little short in the arms and the body. I've ordered a replacement in the next size up but annoyingly if I'd bought them both together I would have got free return shipping on the one I didn't want. Oh well, them's the breaks.

I came across them just from a random Google search looking for jumpers I think. Leicester company, only use natural fibres so cotton, wool, cashmere although to be fair the alpaca socks I bought for my wife do have some nylon in them as well. Fairly classic styles and not silly prices. They seem to do pretty good sales, I had my eye on one of their heavy wool shooting jumpers but then the cotton version came up for forty quid so I bought that instead. The one I've just bought was in the sale, too.

The moss stitch gives a sort of waffly open texture, it's not heavyweight like a big thick ribbed thing. Midweight I suppose. This one's still a bit rustic, got big chunky seams where it's all put together. Be fine with a light jacket over the top for cold early spring days.


For fancy fine merino, John Smedley in Matlock is the place to go. They're more posh pullovers than chunky knits though. Prices are on the silly side but they do have a factory shop.

If you don't want to spend on a new fedora or trilby hat, then maybe buy some hat feathers to Jazz up the hats you already own! I ordered these today. They are easy to slip under the hat's satin headband, or as it states you can sew or glue them on. I'll just keep them as they are, so I can swap them around my many hats!
