I've just bought these, as I fancied a pair of black loafers. Yes, black shoes are classed as being formal, but with tassle loafers having less to the vamp/top of the shoe than penny loafers have, they look even less formal than penny loafers and obviously Oxford or Derby lace ups.

I wore them for the first time yesterday. After days of dry, warm(ish) weather I felt confident enough to try them out. They felt ok, potential slipping wise, but with the soles being polished leather it was still dodgy. I popped into my nearest Timpson's more for a chat with the bloke who works there than for a shoes matter. Though on mentioning my leather soled loafers he said 'Pass them here and I'll make the soles less potentially slippy'. He used their stripping, buffing machine to put a key (rough them up a bit) on the soles, not charging me a penny.😉

Seeing as they are Loake's they didn't give me any of the usual breaking in Loake shoes, especially their boots pain, even after 6 hours of wearing them.😉

It could happen yet, but so far so good!😉

I've read that it's wise to put restoring polish on leather soles, once the polished sole has worn down enough for the polish to penetrate into the leather. This is to keep the leather supple and stop it from wearing down quickly. That may be so, but wouldn't that make the soles more susceptible to slipping, I wonder?🤔

I'm 'into' loafers these days. Do I want anymore though? These are tempting me, but they are quite similar to three other brown or tan pairs of Loake's I have. I bought a pair of tan leather Loake loafers on fleabay about five years ago. They were like the ones below, seconds or imperfect. I've looked them over many times but still can't see what their imperfection is. 🤔 The below are in a 'wide' width size G, which would nicely fit my now inflated by blood pressure problems once narrow feet.

Years ago I remember polishing the instep of leather shoes I think it was to stop them splitting where they bend the most.

I have a pair of blue Loake loafers that are the same or similar to those and I again paid a similar price for a perfect pair in sale at Watkinsons in York.

My Loakes are Etons. There ones on the right, the middle ones are Trickers which did cost about £245 but that was half price and left hand ones are Timberland boat shoes which cost about £60 in one of their outlet shops
