This 1988 Sparta was slightly the worse for wear when it came into my hands. Fortunately being a genuine Dutch bike (built on the outskirts of Amsterdam I believe) it is pretty much indestructable. Original spec included Sachs front & rear drums & 3 speed hub. Minimal refurbishment was required to make this comfy old thing fit for local shopping etc.

I converted the transmission to single speed with a coaster hub. Also fitted Schwalbe Marathons and new Axa lock and dynamo / lights.

This is my first set of 'Bikebins' and I love them!

It is now known in this houshold as 'The Mighty Sparta'!

Yes, very heavy! Great for popping to the nearest shops 1/4 mile away but longer trips take a long time and hills are very hard work.

I occassionaly venture as far as Wokingham (about 5 miles) as I wouldnt want to leave one of my lighter bikes outside the pub there on an evening.
