I like the idea of renovating a house; wouldn't all that keen on the practicalities of it. Plus I've got naff all skills in that area. Hope it goes well for you ppl.

The first job when I bought my house was getting rid of the sitting tenant who shouldn't have been a part of the purchase. Then rebuild front and rear walls, underpinning, roof, electrics, plumbing, floors, ceilings, walls, evicting the ex wife, windows, moving parents into the granny flat, central heating, workshop(s), roof (again), chimney, electrics (again), floors (again),.....
And so it goes on.

Took us 20 weeks from starting groundwork to moving in fully decorated etc. Many say we done it quick, where as I can see where we could have saved time.

We did 20 weeks from ground work to moving in, but we still had the cement mixer in the living room when we moved into the bedrooms where we lived for the next few months whilst we did the basics of the interior, fitted the bathroom and kitchen.

|We then had 7 skip loads of muck to move out a barrow at a time
We had to wait 6 months for plaster to dry so we did not even start decorating for a year, and it took us 7 years before the final carpet when down

Looks like I was very lucky then. Why so long for the plaster to dry? We went underfloor heating so that went on quit quickly which helped the dryout. Looking hard now for another plot or project whilst I have a good bunch of reliable tradespeople to call on.

I found having the cash and making every decision quickly helped the project move along quickly. Although I was on site everyday I did very little of the work other than managing the job.

have done total renovations a few times,roofs re render keeps the weather out re wire plaster and dry lining,exposing features,plumbing from scratch and so it goes on,am in on a project at present where the main wall has had to stay and have had to build around it,nightmare for levels,good luck ,i always think of it as threw all the muck i am making a few quid

The Bungalow next door to my mother in laws was up for sale for 140k, My partner and I pondered on whether to view it or not. After several months of no movement with it we decided to have a look so arranged a viewing and put a bid in for 110K after another 18 months or so we got a call saying its yours for 115k,

To say it was in a state is an understatement!! Luckily a good friend of mine had remembered what we were taught at college on our electricians course yrs ago so guided me in the re wire and then swatted up on the latest regs to make sure we were safe. My father in law was a clerk of works for the police so guided and advised all the way. I could type away all day about the ups and downs of the project but over all from being a non diy'er I thoroughly enjoyed doing it and am proud of what we achieved. Now we've decided that this is probably going to be our long term home due to in-laws ageing etc there are some more jobs that I would like to complete when finances allowing.
