And dropping all those millions of tons of bombs on innocent villagers achieved exactly what, pray tell?

Went and looked at Wiki where I found this:

Laos was hit by an average of one B-52 bombload every eight minutes, 24 hours a day, between 1964 and 1973. US bombers dropped more ordnance on Laos in this period than was dropped during the whole of the Second World War. Of the 260 million bombs that rained down, particularly on Xieng Khouang province, 80 million failed to explode, leaving a deadly legacy.[5] It holds the dubious distinction of being the most bombed country in the world.

The only good thing you can say about bombs like that is that they, unlike modern mines, are relatively easy to detect and render safe. The problems start of course is you are talking about bomblets or if the bombs have been fitted with anti-handling devices etc.
