I'm in a syndicate of 10 - we used to buy 10 lucky dip tickets a week...we'll now buy 5. Then once the new year comes around and we decide whether to do it for another year or not the decision will be NOT.

I could have also saved money by not going out socialising and meals out....... but if you sit in your house not spending money then there is no point doing the lottery as you would not need the money.

I used to only spend £1 per week (not doing wed draw) but got drawn into £1 per week daily play (20 p per day) when it launched 18 months ago...... but yes my new £16 per month is a hefty sum when you see it as monthly amount but I can afford it (I'm not rich.... not even well off, just comfortable) and think why not have a dream If my financial situation changed for the worse I would not go without food to play the lottery.... it would be the first luxury to go.

I am very much in favour of anyone else buying lottery tickets. Your altruistic desire to pay more tax is to be commended.
For devilment I was just pointing out how much the odd £2 ticket adds up to as lottery players seem to no add up the sums but only ever look at it per ticket. You have gone a step further to break it down to a cost per day!

Perhaps it is worth it to keep hope alive if people are unhappy where they are.

I am happy where I am, but what's wrong with hoping for a big win as I assume I am intelligent enough to cope with it (many winners aren't)

when I had a job further away and drove to work I spent £200 a month on petrol (now cycle commuting to a nearer job has saved me 3/4 of this amount) I will be spending £200 per year on the lottery I know which I'd rather spend

Got an email this morning...... NEWS ABOUT YOUR TICKET!

Stuff it I'm going public! but don't sending begging messages I'm going to blow the tenner all on myself (possibly on something cycle related from my LBS)

no ones forced to buy a ticket. think of what else that was £1 20 years back and what it costs now. seems to have wider prizes, so im happy with increase
Exactly right, what a fuss over nothing.
The price has been £1 for almost 20 years, and has never gone up. If you apply compound interest at 4% per annum the ticket would be more than £2, so this is not a huge increase, it just happened in one jump, and will probably stay at £2 for the next 10 years.

Am I correct in thinking that the prize money had increased too, or is that Beau Larques? Presumably the proportion that goes to good causes will increase?

I currently put 3 lines on for 4 weeks at a time at a cost of £24,but £48 seems an unreasonable amount to gamble each month, so I'm going to stop playing it. £24 a month extra for bike stuff, so I'm now a winner ^_^

I used to do the lottery online. I would pay in a fiver and that did me for 5 weeks (1 line on Saturdays). Then they made the minimum amount you had to pay into your account £10 so I stopped doing it altogether so the two pound business doesn't affect me at all.
