Panghyon airport in N Korea - do we think these are real aircraft or dummies, also there appears to be a shortage of support facilities for a fully operational air base -

Probably Bruntingthorpe (near Leicester).

The preservation group there have two Lightnings that they keep in running condition. They used to demonstrate high-speed taxy runs on the runway there until the new owners of the airfield put a stop to it.

The (not very frequent) static ground runs are even more spectacular after dusk with the afterburners operating.

WOW - what sort of person buys an airport and stop high speed taxi runs on one of those!!!
great advert for the airport if nothing else

I wonder is an insurance company was involved??

Bruntingthorpe has been many things over the last few decades, with the airport side of it being at best a side hustle, and at worst, a distraction from the other stuff.

I think housing or an industrial park are on the cards.

It's a massive car park!

I wonder if the RAF will start vetoing runway development on grounds of national security?

Doncaster springs to mind too..

I'm always alert to the sound of vintage aircraft passing by and a bit prone to dropping what I'm doing and rushing outside. With the heat recently I've been a bit wiped out but it didn't stop me going out to have a look when a loud slow revving sound went by almost overhead yesterday afternoon.

I spotted a high winged single engined monoplane with fixed undercarriage which I initially thought was a DHC Beaver, but it had a twin tail.

I fired up Flightradar and found it was a Max Holste MH.1521 Broussard, something I'd never seen before. Just taken off from Barton aerodrome, Manchester. Private owner, no destination shown so I followed its progress on and off to Kemble where it landed about 1 1/2 hours later.

One of these.

As with a.twiddler apparently, I hear aircraft engine notes and just know it's something of interest... walked out the garden to see 2x vintage aircraft slowly becoming out of sight so not sure what they were exactly...a quick look on ADSB, 2x Hurricanes...yay.
It's far more unusual to see one, let alone two..
They weren't going particually fast...actually, quite slow.

I'd bet they were flying on a 'cruise' setting, uses less fuel and puts a lot less stress/wear on the engines, they'd only use full power and revs at an airshow consuming a gallon of fuel a minute and then only briefly (they only hold 50 gallons of fuel)
