The pubs

Our local closed suddenly last September. Up until then it offered one hand pulled beer and a couple of fizzy lagers. The ale was a lottery as to whether it was OK to drink or not.

The pub was bought by a local syndicate and reopened with 3-4 hand pulled ales (one house ale, one usually fixed and the others rotating) and 12 gas-pumped taps with a rotation of IPAs, lagers, ciders and stouts. Hand-pulled is around £5.90 a pint, the gas taps can be up to £9 a pint! 😳

That’s said, the pub is now buzzing with life whereas before it was empty and lifeless.

Me too. I used to drink their beers and enjoy them but I gave up on them a while back after the various reports of how they treat staff and investors. One thing they did do though is kick start the ‘craft’ IPA revolution.

I've just got back from my 65th birthday pubs event. I wouldn't call it a pub crawl as we only visited four. Out of the four pubs we visited, I have to say that Accrington Wetherspoons was the 'nicest', which tells you something about the other three! In one pub a female took my hat off my head from behind me, saying she wanted to try it on, with her putting it back apologetically after I shouted at her to leave it alone!!! The other two had hideous thumping music on, making conversation impossible! Thank god I made the four mile bus journey home safely! 🙄👎

If you can access it, here's my now ex local of 44 years. Built in 1906 (or was it 1904🤔) it's hardly changed in many decades. Those wall tiles were put there when the pub was built, then covered with panels in the 1970's, only to be uncovered in the early 1990's. The oak wood bar is the original one, and the etched art nouveau glass in the doors and over the bar is also original. Though white plastic framed windows were fitted in the early 2000's which many like me think weren't/aren't in keeping with the rest of the pub.

I haven't been in for must be approaching five years. I now live too far away to walk there and back now.🤷

Well, a local pub to me is opening again after several months being closed, with new management. They have been doing up the place with much hoo hah on Facebook and I was genuinely expecting good things interiorwise.

They then said that they were returning it back to its former glory as an old fashioned pub. Oh, ok, fair enough...

... I've just seen the pictures and it looks so dull and boring and brown (it was dull and boring and grey before).
So much for all the hype! 🙄.

Ok, I know a lot of work has gone into the place, including giving it all a deep clean, so maybe I am being unfair, but... Ummm.... They have even covered over the old tiled floor in the main bar area with what looks like grey mock wooden floor or similar (ironic as the rest of the place used to be grey, but the floor there was white with black diamond patterns). 🤷‍♂️

I'll go and investigate tomorrow anyway 🍺

To this - Simply replacing the grey with brown and the floor with grey. etc:

They do say that they will do more work on it later in the year, but... Well, I'm now not holding out much excitement.

All that hype just for that?

Looks like a cross between a spoons and a cafe, they should've left those floor tiles down at least.

The Pub is L - shaped. They do not have the lights on in the bit beyond the balloons, but you see it in my picture in the previous post.

Yeah, its... Brown!

They will be doing it up properly in January apparently though, so who knows? 🤷‍♂️

They just wanted to get the place open at least though.
