We had a corporal called Biffa. Legend was he was riding a recruit a bit hard when the guy snapped and chinned him, knocking him out cold. The guy panicked and dumped his unconscious form in a Biffa bin, hence the nickname.

Be rude not to post a photo (taken in haste so composition isn't that great) of the Flying Scotsman while it's at the Nene Valley Railway.

Lots of people at various points along the tracks, lots of cars coupled to it (more than its resident trains have notmally) and mostly full, there nothing like this to attract people..

It looked absolutely immaculate..

I'm going up the Nene Valley Railway on Sunday to take a look at the Scotsman. 😁

If you're not from Peterborough I guess the four main options are....
Wansford station, start and end of the NVR.
Ferry Meadows station a nice little place, pay parking in Ferry Meadows itself or a nearby feeder lane off Oundle Road into Ham Lane
Orton Mere station, pay parking nearby, just by the river
Town end station (can't remember what's its called) but lots of parking available there.

There are other local points with access to the RW but it needs a bit of local knowledge.

Was in Wakefield Kirkgate over the weekend, now that is a bleak railway station. Only a solitary information board, no toilet and a vending machine wanting £1.50 for a pack of crisps - no thanks lol. Did see this coming through on the return journey:

Meanwhile in Sheffield I saw something called 'a tram', being from Leeds I had no idea about these and think they'd definately be a good idea up here! The service is lovely, very frequent I think really helps keep the traffic light around the city.

Couple of pictures of 66786 on the Portbury - Margam tonight passing thru' Pill village.

In the distance of the second picture is the Avonmouth bridge which I'd just cycled over.

A couple more US ones from my recent trip. These are both relatively new operations on the tram-train principle, using a mix of old railway alignments and new sections with street, or street-adjacent, running, and they cover distances that distinguish them from purely urban tramway systems (although I tracked those down too, in Philadelphia and Boston, but that's for another time).

This one is the 'River Line' that runs for 34 miles from Trenton to Camden, just across the river Delaware from Philadelphia, shown here close to its terminus in Camden.

This one is the Bergen-Hudson line which runs for 17 miles from Jersey City through Hoboken to North Bergen, roughly along the west bank of the Hudson opposite Manhattan, and shown here at Hoboken Terminal

166208 & 170619 this morning at Stapleton Road, Bristol.

The 166 is a local Avonmouth - Bristol train whilst the 170 is the Bristol - Stansted airport service via Birmingham !
