We get these going past our house. For modern trains, they're quite interesting: a class 67 locomotive*, five Mk5 coaches, and an ex-ECML DVT on the other end with a chime horn.

*same engine as a class 66, capable of 125mph(!) but with an unfortunate history. They were ordered for fast postal trains, but Royal Mail switched to road and air transport instead. The axle loading is quite high, which limits their routes, and they're not geared for hauling freight. Many have been in storage for years, and one has been scrapped.

I once saw a double headed pair of 67's on a Freightliner working struggling through Willesden Junction one evening. I'm sure the driver was doing his best.

Just seen what may be a trial run of the new Class 99 locomotives on the Ipswich - Felixstowe Port run. Two Class 66 locos then two Class 99s (GBRF branding) pulling a full 36 wagon container load. This line doesn't do freight traffic on a Sunday which is what caught my attention from the kitchen window.

Looks like there are 6 runs booked from Ipswich to Felixstowe and returns. 99001and 002 and 66301and 66721 are the locomotives.
