I went to a classic car rally today - and saw things like final generation Ford Escorts, Peugeot 306s and Citreon Xantias - they're not classic - I remember them going into production - over twenty years ago....:stop:

Realising that a few of my work colleagues are younger than own Peugeot 205!

A recent eye test the optician asked me if I had any trouble reading, to which I replied to no. "Oh, you will in the next few years!" the cheeky cow replied:cry:

Attending my youngest cousin's wedding and thinking that I used to sit with her on my lap when she was a baby!

My 40th birthday looms a few months away and everyone is asking me what I'm doing for it!

Its strange but you forget how time slips by when your in the mundane throws of life. Week in week out were often stuck in the same old routine of work, paying the bills and juggling all the normal day today chores of life, but every so often when you get some time out, the old realization of age creeps up behind you and bites you on the back side. Your mind still thinks like a youngster but the body often says no. Mind you only three years ago the thought of cycling 20 miles was a big mile stone for me, and only last Sunday i clocked up 104 miles across Wales in a single ride. Thinking like this, age is just a mental thing. Obviously were all getting older but it doesn't stop us from improving our health. Alot of people i know of my age seem to resign them selves to thinking there over the hill purely because of there age. Getting older doesn't mean we should just stop and put our feet up and wither away. Many a people i know think I'm absolutely bonkers putting in the many miles i do on my push bike. I get all kinds of comments from "your having a mid life crisis" to "what's the point at your age".The thing is though, i enjoy it and trying to improve my fitness, and beating that personal best on strava,or to discovering that new place always leaves me an appetite to want to cycle again. I think ive said before but i often cycle with a gent whos well in his 80s. He uses an Ebike and i personally think it really keeps his mind sharp and focused going out on a club ride. If he was to stop i,m sure his physical and mental health would slip really quickly. My dads the same. He's getting on for 80 and rides his bike but alarmingly solo. I'm sure one day he will end up going missing on one of his rides only to be found going mouldy by some hill walker on some windswept welsh road. As much as worry about him, i will never be able to convince him to slow down and take it easy. He would just be so unhappy about it, and think it would finish him off, so i just have to accept him and the way he is.
