What is this retirement word you use.First job Mrs P shaved my head,i was looking like a mad Prof, then i cut the lawn.peeled the spuds for mash at lunchtime, washed the toilet floor and cleaned the bathroom which the father in law uses.then washed the kitchen floor and finally ironed. Now after washing up sat contemplating my world.Tomorrow a couple of pints in Leeds with my Royal Mail mates Wednesday a visit to old Jack and a catch up,now this week i might get the turbo out and spin some legs.

Just in England and Wales. Just £100 up here unless you are on pension credit. What they were going to save by removing it was still much less than the cost of locating illegal immigrants in hotels. Need to get their priorities sorted!

Why not Scotland, you need it more living up there than I do on the south coast

I think I'll relate this little story. Today I received one of the nicest cycling compliments I've had. As above three punctures, three tubes. First puncture my buddy pulls out a pair of tweezers to remove a thorn. "Tweezers?" another guy asks. "Yes" says I, "I have some too."

While we were waiting same guy said to me. "You gave me spare shifter batteries and a little screwdriver to fit them." "I carry those now."

On the third puncture I gave my buddy a tube with the remark "Talced, of course." My buddy replied to the effect "of course, I wouldn't expect anything else."

By this point another guy is agog. " You put talcum powder on your tubes." I explained why. After this he was kind enough to say:

"This is amazing. You guys have so much experience. I'm learning so much from you."

Later my buddy and I agreed we felt very pleased by those kind remarks.

I wish my ride was as pleasant. What was supposed to be an easy spin to get legs turning was in reality a battle into a strong headwind on way out and then a near death experience when a van drove straight at me on the coast road home! I'm just downloading footage now with intention of sending clip into Operation Snap. I literally had to ride into a hedgebank to avoid getting hit.

Unless your “income” is greater than £35,000pa.

This won't happen but I think they should reinstate what they took last year.
Personally I suffer from the cold and have my heating on a lot ie its on now.

Still not sure what happens for a couple where one has over 35000 a year and one under

I think one gets half the allowance and the other get nothing
or maybe the higher earner gets it but it gets clawed back in tax

not sure but we will be keeping an eye on it as it seems to apply to us
or will when we are old enough to get the OAP

It wasn't mentioned if this figure is before or after Tax though. Maybe they don't know themselves.

There are lots of thing which were not mentioned, eg is the £35,000 per person, or per household, what happens if one person in a household with at least one person of state pension age, is earning more than £35,000. What counts as "earnings" ie State Pension, Private Pension, Interest Income, ISA Income. Is it a "cliff edge" ie, earn £35,000 get the full WFA, earn £35,001, get nothing? Some of the above has been covered in subsequent articles, but, I have not seen any "official" explantion.

Seems to include all taxable earnings
so include State Pension and interest payments etc

but seems to be per household
so 2 people at one address and both get half

cutoff seems to be absolute - so 34999 and your OK - 35001 and your not - dunno about exactly 35000

There should be a fuller explanation out tomorrow I suppose - plu sthe people who study this sort fo thing will have had time to look at it by then
e.g. Martin Lewis, Age UK etc etc

Yes, there are a few unanswered questions. I have seen subsequent articles suggesting (in your example) that Both parties will get 50% of WFA, but, the £35,000+ earning will have theirs "clawed back" by HMRC.

Perhaps worth explaining that, originally, the WFA (£400pa, I think) was paid as"household" about. So, a Pensioner, living alone, got £400, a couple, also got £400. In the case of a Couple, when one was not State Pension Age, and one was, the State Pension Age person got £400, the other, £0. When the younger one reached State Pension Age, they got £200 each (ie £400/household).

Quite what happened if you had a "less conventional" household (ie several "wives" or several "husbands" I have no idea. 😂
