I going to the butcher shortly.

Pat or Frank?

I went to Israel when I was about 18 - went with a lad I grew up with
It was YHA thing where we had a pre-paid voucher for a room at all Youth Hostles in Israel
We did the basics - Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Mount fo the beatitudes , Sea of Galilee (great for soaking tired feet in)
then down to the Dead Sea and Masada which was amazing
my friend discovered that he had a cut on his arm AFTER getting in the Dead Sea
and there are current in it
we got shouted at by some armed soldiers as we were drfiting towards a wall covered with barbed wire that maked a "do not go there" area

My friend alo go his bag stolen - with passport, wallet, travellers cheques ad all that - which was interesting to sort out!

It was stolen when we were in a small bar with a couple of lads we had met

we LATER met up withthem again and they had discovered that the bar was actually the entrance to a well know brothel
I wish to declare and affirm THAT WE HAD NO IDEA OF THIS!!!!!

but it did explain a lot of the funny looks we got when going through the procedure of reporting it and getting replacement stuff like passport!!

That explains a lot. I noticed, on one of the sections of the wall in Jerusalem there is the inscription "eebiker waz 'ere".

As I was living & working there for a year I got the chance to see more places in detail.
Israel took the Golan Heights from Syria so I could cycle and walk there but as the minefields hadn't been cleared, staying on cleared paths was 'sensible'!
The Sinai peninsula was still in Israeli hands after the 7 Day war but was handed back, later, to Egypt in one of the peace settlements. There were still destroyed tanks around the area.

Masada got a ski-lift thingie at some point but my two ascents were in 40°c + sunshine. Stunning place with so much history. The Roman ramp.. and encampments were still visible from height. I guess it's a fully developed tourist site now.

I als note that you have uncovered my subtle and Top Secret invention of a time machine

clear from the concept that I was an ebiker before they were invented - or at least called ebikes!

shhhh - don't tell anyone!!!!!

Well, we didn't buy the rug after all as they were too big but I bought the bulb for 99 p. As I was paying by card, I bought some hooks and a Stanley knife too to make it more worthwhile at the till.
We have some visitors coming later and staying overnight too.
I guess Mrs G will want me to put the central heating on.
