As far as recording from the radio goes

It is only properly retro if you have done it with a microphone while surrounding it with pillows and books to block out noise

when I was at University Lord of The RIngs was on the radio and everywhere you went - if indeed you were out of your room - you could hear it through the doors

You also had to be quiet or face the ire of someone who was recording it with a microphone and was demanding you be quiet walking past to not spoil the recording

I was posh and had a radio cassette player and could record direct to tape by pressing a combination of buttons resembling a Vulcan Nerve pinche!

In the 50s a friend of mine was allowed to use his Dad's Grundig reel to reel......I have no idea if the results were any good.

Good afternoon . It's wet. I woke at 3.00am. I'm nackered now. We took our friends to Liverpool airport for 8.30, well it should have been 8.30 but was 9.00 what with traffic and what have you. Mrs P decided we would go to Another Place for a wander amongst the statues. After a bit she announced she wanted a bacon sarnie so I whisked her away to a very fine coffee shop - Crosby Coffee. She was impressed. They do the most divine bacon sarnie; a generous portion of smoked streaky bacon in a warm toasted sourdough roll. Mrs P now understands why we cycle to Crosby for coffee. Damn good cake as well

Recording from the radio? A few days ago I found cassette tape recordings of the original broadcast of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy which I think date back to 1978. It was brilliant. So good that we would all be in the pub and go home EARLY (!) to listen to R4. I was 24.

Now serious questions chaps and chapesses. Fairy Liquid? I think the quality has dropped significantly of late. Nowhere near as many suds or as long lasting as it used to. Grrrrrrrr. I'm not very gruntled with this. And another thing. Senior Citizen discount. Has anyone else noticed many places have quietly done away with this. Whenever I ask these days it's always, sorry, there isn't one. Double not very gruntled!!!
