Foggy start here in East Cambs but sunny by about 9:00.
Was due out for a ride today and had the bike and everything ready but not really in the mood so was out in the garden all day.

Same with the grand kids at school
every child has their own water bottle in class with them

we moaned about compulsory milk in the morning and might or might not have had some sort of drink at lunch time

and then something when we got home

and somehow did not die!!

Strangely, I don’t recall any allergies either (excepting hayfever). Recently, I was asked by the Practice Nurse in our GP surgery if Mrs @BoldonLad had any allergies. I told her “people born in 1947 didn’t have allergies” 😂

Yes, hard to believe they were champions 10 years ago and have fallen so far.
I like what you have done so far. TBH even when I was fit I would not have had the patience.

As Gary Lineker said….if you’d told a Leicester fan 13 years ago that they would get promoted to the Championship, then the Premier League, then WIN it, come 5th twice, get to the quarter finals of the Champions League, win the FA Cup, get demoted, promoted, then drop twice more…..they’d take that 😎

On the important issue of patio grout, I cannot speak highly enough of Projoint Fusion for sweeping in wet….super quick & easy, resin based, lasts years 💪

Good morning all.
Maybe Mo and Chorley Paul up at this rediculous time. Both of them happy as thier teams had good results recently with St Johnson beating Raith and lifting the trophy....and Blackburn securing safety.
Think I will be able to sleep again shortly, I will certainly try.

As far as water goes - I do wonder about how much people take nowadays
compared to "the old days"

I used to go out on my bike as a kid and never took anything - just some stuff for fixing punctures

I seldom stopped to a can of whatever - just rode
and I was often out for several hours and was riding the whole time

I am not pro cyclist, and I am not saying that was necessarily a good idea

I also did a lot of hill/mountain walking, and we did take drinks etc - but nowhere near the volume that people seem to consider that ABSOLUTE minimum nowadays

If I drank the same on my ride as some people I see around then I would be "nipping behind a tree" several times a ride!!!

I do find it amusing when I see a "proper rider" on a "proper bike" which has everything lighter than everything else

and 3 bottles strapped to it and a hydration backpack - which weigh far more than the bike!

In the "old days" everyone had a lot of salt with their food. Salt helps the body to retain water so we used to drink a lot less.
In South Africa in the nineteen sixties I used to paddle the 'Dusi canoe marathon and we used to swallow a couple of salt tablets before we started in the morning.
We also used a product called Silvasun which were tablets containing a high level of vitamin C to prevent sunburn. It seemed to work for us.
In the current era if you drink too much water you can get quite sick, don't remember what the condition is called.
Here endeth the lesson!

Good morning. A beautiful day has dawned. I will get my bike out. I'll be going solo as I can't be sure the club ride I planned to join will take place. I'm a bit cheesed off, I've expressed my view and no doubt will get a telling off at some point. There is a planned club ride at 9.00am but someone has decided to put on an alternative ride starting at 08.30, this is against club policy. This group want to head out to the Ribble Valley, I agree it's a good plan and the core group of riders for the 9.00am ride are going. This creates the question, will there be anyone at the 9.00 ride? I'm not going on the Ribble Valley ride as on the outward leg it includes a short section which I consider for 2-3 riders, a group is very tricky. With my buddies we have stopped using the road, and we're not wimps. More importantly the return leg follows some very busy roads around Blackburn - I don't mind traffic but not in a group on a Saturday morning.

Any how. Later I will be on the allotment for 2-3 hours. I have to pop to see my lad and grab his bank card to renew his Rovers season ticket. The club have announced next season all season ticket holders will have their name on their seat. I await my brass plaque with anticipation..............or is it that only for benches overlooking one's favourite view? Tonight we are visiting friends for curry and Canasta. Mrs P has told me to keep my mouth firmly shut. Our friends recently travelled to Spain and spent 3 - 4 hours queuing to get through the new biometric passport scheme, they were unhappy with this.....................it's been made very clear to me any comments along the lines of "you get what you voted for" will mean my ankles will receive several sharp kicks.

A lack of hydration can lead to serious difficulties. I recall one ride, 100+ miles, when a friend of mine became very disorientated through lack of water. As riders began to peel off for home he said to me "I'm turning off here." Here was on to the A6 bypass round Preston, dual carriageway, 60 limit, no cycle path. You'd have to be nuts to cycle on it. I took him home the proper way. On the same ride another guy was later found to be completely dehydrated. I've a third guy collapse through lack of hydration on a different ride.

Personally I drink 2.5 litres every day, on a 50/60 mile ride I'd drink another 2 litres. Yes. I pee quite a lot!!
