Bonjour from sunny Thaxted, somewhere near Stansted airport.
My flight is at 12.50 and I must the premises by 10 am so plenty of time yet.
The airport car park is only 7 miles away.
I guess my next post will be from my brother's, near Orleans.
Salut.

Coincidentally on my recent walks I have been listening to " The Rest is History " podcasts about Joan of Arc. Four, one hour episodes so they go into the subject in depth. Fascinating and educational. This morning I was listening to their discussion of Tolkein, I had read the " Lord of the Rings " books many years ago, but hadn't learned about the man and his background, nor how much his time in the trenches during the first World War influenced his writing. It's great listening to stuff like this.

Just back from a walk over the rugged parts of Upton Heath. Tripped on a root and took a tumble, fortunately a load of ferns cushioned my fall😀
The wildlife cameras had picked up that the humane rat trap had triggered so I set off to release Roland into a different habitat. Three miles should be sufficient distance 🤞

Good morning. Grey, cloudy and cool........I've put my trousers on!!! 😲 I must say I prefer this weather than steaming hot. A very poor sleep last night, the first for several weeks, so I mustn't complain.

I've just been to a very interesting u3a talk on the Lancashire Cotton Famine. In a nutshell the Lancashire cotton industry came to a grinding halt when cotton from the southern US States was blockaded by the Union navy at key export ports.

One point that struck a chord. A leading Confederate politician, James Hammond, expounded the theory the southern states could never be defeated as cotton, tobacco etc contributed so much to the world economy. Effectively saying the south could defeat the north through sheer economic might.

Seems to me I've heard this elsewhere in recent months. Strange how history repeats itself.

So I'm out on my travels, moved on form Tomintoul this morning, it's been grey and overcast the last few days but it's reasonably warm, well for this part of the world. I'm now parked up on the Marr Lodge Estate at the Linn of Quoich.

Local guy has a hide set up and gets some great wildlife shots.

Nice one of one of the Pine Martins.

I spotted one crossing the road behind Marr Lodge, first in a while. No photo's I'm afraid just a fleeting glimpse

Got up later than usual today.

Knackered after my usual monthly hospital visit for tests (all ok) - for some reason sitting in an ambulatory unit chair for a good chunk of the day is debilitating.

Round trip of over 100 miles doesn't help.

Bizzarre really when I used to drive 60000 miles a year when I was in corporate-land. Most working days I would average 250-300 miles each day for 4 days each week. I was a very early adopter of WFH for 1, sometimes 2, days a week.

Cut lawns today, got a viewing on the house later so fingers crossed. Hope the viewers are not of the time-wasting variety.

Cooler, but nice, here in The Lakes.

Hope you are all having a good day.

Morning.
Bit overcast and breeezy but dry.
Crap nights sleep, too much stuff going on with elderly parents who I was with all day yesterday trying to organise things but it's a freaking nightmare. My brain is mush which is ironic as that's the way my Dads going along with the physical decline.

Heads up folks, if you're going to live a long time make it a healthy end of life period.

Yes, you have hope for a healthy old age, and, a dignified exit, but, as far as I can see, it cannot be guaranteed.

Been quite warm here today up to 30c, dropped back to 26c and clouded over now.
