Yes, agreed it was a very good and valuable perk. Especially as a youngish father of three. It meant our family could, just about, run two decent vehicles when the kids were small.

Later when the tax breaks changed it would have made greater financial sense to own my car and claim running costs. I chose to stick with a company car. Two reasons. The expenses claims would have been hard work and cost the company significant amounts. After three years my cars usually had 100,000 on the clock, worth bugger all at the end. That and having no worries over the cost of running the car.

Similar here... I continued to have a company vehicle until working for myself. I then tried leasing one for 2 years.....that was a financial disaster as it was a £33K Volvo and the taxman hit me for the value of the car and not the £300 per month cost for leasing. That cost was £7,500 which had to be paid immediately.

Wet and very miserable here. Bring back the heatwave!

Struggling to sell the house, unless it is a starter home the market is completely flat around here. A bit depressing as we want to downshift as well as being nearer to the hospital which is currently a 100 mile round trip. Plus we are fed up with the Lake District weather, too.

Nothing planned for today.

Struggling to sell the house, unless it is a starter home the market is completely flat around here. A bit depressing as we want to downshift as well as being nearer to the hospital which is currently a 100 mile round trip. Plus we are fed up with the Lake District weather, too.

not sure if I mentioned it - but I met someone whose daughter was going
for the last few weeks she has been pestering her Mum about what to wear and whether these short and coll enough and all that

Her Mum has told her not to bother anymore - everyone will be wearing wellies, waterproof and mud!

Piddling down in Warrington, home of Creamfields.
I only found out yesterday that Creamfields doesn't have actual musicians/singers.... its all famous (to the in crowd) DJs.
My daughter used to live near the site and loved it happening. They didnt go, she just loved the buzz around the place.
Her BiL is a DJ so he and his family go most years so my daughter would walk alongside the adjacent canal, have a couple of drinks with them then head back home.
AND IT AIN'T CHEAP......I believe its £200 a ticket.

The thing is when your younger never think that being close to things like hospitals or shops is that important. You just think this is a lovely house in a lovely area and it’s just what I want .
About 20 years ago we were all set to more to a lovely little village but it fell though at the last minute and then soon after Peugeot shut the Ryton plant so we never moved .
Now I am in my mid 60s and looking forward to the next 20 years am really really glad we didn’t move . We are somewhere if the worst happens and I can’t drive anymore , I can go by bus . Buses run every 15 minutes, the hospital is only 10 mins away, the city centre and the railway station 30mins and the nearest supermarkets only 5mins . Plus there are more Ubers than you can shake a stick at.
None of these things would I have even considered 20 years ago and tbh I don’t need them now, but ………..

Morning all .

Just sat drinking my second coffee and thinking of having mackerel pate for lunch ( thanks to Mrs exlaser ) . Also it’s a very comfortable 20 degrees at the moment and locally we do have a lot of good blackberries. 😀

Just back from picking up my car from the garage . It needed a new EGR valve in the exhaust so I am now £320 worse off.
Maybe the thought of owning one of the world’s most boring cars ( the Toyota Corolla ) is getting closer all the time . 😂😀
