Just got my car insurance renewal docs. Gone up by £25. Now £144 and includes protected NCD. I can't be bothered to look elsewhere this year so that'll do me. I already searched for better house buildings and contents and got good deals.

Chicken casserole for us today.

mine also went up so I phoned them and said I have got 3 cheaper prices via gocompare. She asked me to name them. I refused (cos I couldn't) so she matched last years.

Newton stands out to me - astonishing insight and predictions, way ahead of his time.

Ditto Einstein. How, in the early 20thC did he predict that Cosmic Background Radiation existed and then calculate its value with remarkable accuracy? And his work on space and time is gob-smackingly amazing.

Time travellers from the future!

I can just about get through the easiest work of Hawking let alone anything else. And then to conceptualise these theories is way beyond that. Bonkers! But fascinatingly brilliant too.

Eratosthenes working out the circumference of the earth to high accuracy over two thousand years ago, and thinking up a way of sorting prime numbers is something astonishing.

Especially as the Earth was flat back in those days. 😁

Seriously though, a man way ahead of his time.

How did he manage that? Axial tilt as well. Bonkers.

What is nice about retirement is that you get time to plough through some of this stuff that you missed whilst you were busy working.

I had put in for a stall at an indoor flea market place in August and I went down after my Thursday PT to fill out papers. I move my stuff in 2/1 and on Tuesday I will begin my 780 mile, 2 day trip to New Mexico to get my sister who wants to set this up and show me the ropes ....almost wish I did not get this stall but there is a double garage full of saleables and once set up it is fairly easy. Prolly best done when it aint great outside anyway. I gotta get rid of all this before I can sell the house and move when I figure out if I I really want to move and if so
where. I like it here very much but it is too far from my kids and other family and it is probably the most right wing, undiverse state in the Union. It is inexpensive for me to live here and there is a lot of beautiful outdoors. A lot more house than I will need when it empties out.
Well, enough grousing. Be safe and well...
PS....Mo, you do take excellent pictures.

As far as I can remember* it involved the sun shining down a well when it was directly overhead, then knowing the distance to another town and the time difference until the sun was directly overhead there.
* I'm probably misremembering but I think that was the gist of things.

Channel 5 On Catch up Mrs Caldicots Cabbage War I’ll not say what it’s about but it has older person theme and unless have misjudged the sense of humour of the contributors to the retirement thread I think you will enjoy it.
"Brussel Sprout Battles" will be next I suppose.
