Well good morning. Can they get the forecast right? No! we had a warning for yellow snow and don't even have white snow. Cycling plans were duly abandoned, even the fall back plan of start late, 11.00, short ride and lunch was discarded. It's about 4⁰ and quite decent. I am going to clean the inside of my car, it's disgusting and not how I like it, quite how this has happened I don't know but I intend to fix it. I had thought of using a local valet company but decided no as it will probably cost £50-75 and I'm too embarrassed to let a stranger see it!

I may return complaining the hoover is blocked.......................

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
You're seeing things!
The snow was forecast for Scotland and the eastern side of The Pennines. Last time I checked Wales was on the western side of The Pennines.

Still is, however contrary to popular belief, it is in fact showing.

Right - just checked and we are promised snow at 5 p.m.
or 3 p.m. if you believe the Liverpool Echo

whatever - the living room was down to 13 when I came down this morning so the heating was engaged

I checked and the Met Office and they said it was 3 degrees outside (all together now - "When will I see you again"

anyway - cancelled planned ride becuase I took the bike out to a 'Wellness' course yesterday (as instructed by the Doc!) and had to have several puff (!) on the Ventalin to recover when I got there in order to breath properly
and that was warmer!

Anyway - I also have a confession to make
On the way back I wet the long way round - and when I was near home I was turning left at some basic traffic lights
On the far side was a cyclist turning right - so into the same road as me - plus a load of cars behind both of us
Anyway - the other guy was on a proper road bike and wearing lycra - proper cycling stuff - but as he was turning right he was going to end up behind me and there would be a load of cars wanting to pass both of us on a busy - and none to wide - main road
So I decided that it would make sense to get a move on so I wouldn't hold him up

Now - as mine is an ebike (even though it is in a low assist mode) it can be accelerated pretty well in spite of me being an old fat bald bloke riding a rather dorky commuter type bike.
My idea was that he would be able to pass me more easily once we got away from the junction.
Anyway - a couple of hundred yards after the junction he, as predicted, passes me

Now to the confession
I looked at the speedo on my ebike and I was nearly doing 21 mph
Now - before you moan too much - remember that this is a legal ebike - the motor is quite small - and anyway cuts out at 15.5 mph so most a lot of the work up to 15.5 had been me - and after that it all was me
and there was pretty much no wind
But he still passed me easily - so all credit to him

but now he was past me he obviously HAD to stay in front

I let him pull ahead but maintained my speed for a while until I looked up at him properly
and noticed that - based on his leg muscles and the fact that he was lifting a fraction out of his saddle a bit
he was putting a LOT of effort in to stay ahead

so I thought bad about it and slowed down - kept it at about 15 mph - just under the motor cut off where the motor does very little but does help a bit
So he pulled aahead a bit but then must have slowed a lot as well as the distance stabilised at about 50 yards all the way along the road

Feel a bit bad about causing him to push so hard to get ahead - he might not have realised it was an ebike until he passed me
but probably thinks it is illegal and unlimited/more powerful

I don;t normally do stuff like that

When I was commuting I was always in my work clothes so I was rarely at flat chat, when I was overtaken it was often easy to speed up a bit and sit behind them, it was surprising how many would get about a hundred yards down the road then slow as they couldn't hold the pace.

Mrs G has been feeling a bit under the weather in the last two days so she decided to do a Covid test and guess what ? Yes , she has Covid so she is confined at home for the next 5 days and I hope I won't get it. We are both jabbed by the way .
Our son phoned earlier and he was sent home from work as he has Covid too. Might as well keep it in the family.
Apart from that, it is trying to snow at the moment and I think we may get up to a small blanket of white stuff tomorrow morning.
