The guys turned up, the Cherry Picker didn't. Really helpful guys, but the new cable would cross over an existing BT Cable which is a no no apparently. We are awaiting the arrival of the supervisor but I don't hold out much hope...
After sitting in the van for an age one of the engineers knocked on the door and apologised that because it was now dark, and p*ssing down with rain he wouldn't be climbing the pole. He did however say that they would do all the internals. He drilled a hole in the wall and connected the internal fibre box. He made an excellent job of it, no mess and really neat. Meanwhile his colleague was the other side of the wall in the rain connecting the external box ready for the Fibre. He said they would return tomorrow in daylight and run the Fibre from the pole, and advised that we didn't need to be in as everything internal had been set up.
All in all, excellent service and a positive resolution.

Didn't realise that you could run a fibre line from a pole.
I presume they will use a drop wire from the sold to the premises.
Drop wires are usually copper plated steel ( needed to give the required strength over the length of the span.)*
* Yes, I was once a Telephone Engineer

I wondered about this as well. The overhead line from the BT pole attaches to the soffit near our bedroom window and then there's a loop before it enters the premises. I'm assuming that it's a hybrid cable with a sheath covering the catenary wire and the data cable.
The new pole is about 10 metres further away from the BT one, and is 9 metres tall ( there's a data plate on it ) it's taller thann the BT one which has a " do not Climb " tag on it. ) I'm curious as to how they will get the cable from the box at the top of the new pole to the house. I suppose a crossbow bolt with fishing line attached would do it, but probaly break H+S regs.

Light rope from the pole to the house, attached at the pole, and use that to lift the cable to the house.

There should also be a supporting wire/cable in place, to take the weight.

The "Do Not Climb" tag will be due to the age of the post, if wooden. Or to the fact it was never meant to be climbed, if steel.

Well Drago has obviously wet the bed 🙂
I was awake stupidly early again but managed to doze for a couple of hours.
Dentist at 10.20 (for certain).....I even got a message to confirm it. I require one new filling in a back tooth plus one she put in some weeks ago has come out. Supposed to have a clean and scale.....if she has the time.

An unplanned trip to the pub today as a friend has his 80th birthday. He's a tad eccentric, he and his brother used to run from their home in Swanage to their workplace in Poole. This was back in the 60's / 70's before the first running boom in the 80's.
He's also purchased about 18acres of land on the outskirts of a local village. He's keeping it as a nature refuge and to prevent possible housing developments.

My running coach Greg tells me that I should run for 80 minutes this morning in preparation for the 1/4 marathon on New Year's Day. ( Greg is built into the Garmin app / watch)
I've had a couple of real life coaches over the 40+ years I've been running, one was a Glaswegian and an ex boxer, a lovely guy but hard as nails. Any complaints about training in the cold and wet would be answered with " it's like July in Aberdeen " . He regularly reminded me that running was my hobby and to be enjoyed, and in the dark winter months to " stay on the pavement "
