Is it my ineptitude or are rolls of bar tape getting shorter? I did mine last year and decided I would try double wrapping so bought a cheap one for a base then a better one for on top. I expected the top one to be a bit of a stretch but even the base layer was. I had to pull it quite tight to make it fit and even then it finishes a bit further back than I would have liked. That being said, it looks nice and it's very comfy.

I have had the same thought as generally there is little spare tape left over, even when it is wound on really tight.
It is quite a satisfying job though.

You have just made me think. The bike re taped today are shallow drops and there was aprox five inches left I reckon that would have been about right for the deeper drop bars

Just a thought.

Modern bar tapes can be a little inflexible not like back in the day .If we taped the bars it usually have been with adhesive tape.Taping the bars takes a bit of time and care.Very satisfying when you stand back and admire your handy work

I’m sure some of senior citizens will remember when the first plastic bar tape came in.The end of the bar tape was secured by melting the end with my dads fag lighter and holding the melted end against the wound tape till it set

The biggest problem I had or did have was getting those last bits of the tyre on the rim,Not any more though since I discovered The Tyre Glider:notworthy::notworthy:

Most of the time I just use electrical tape
