Good day from Arran. 'Tis a glorious morning, bright sunshine and absolutely still. Forecast is 16⁰ so not warm.
Yesterday we spent our time wandering around Brodick Castle which is an interesting place. Ancestral home to many worthies, most recently the Dukes of Hamilton. Wonderful gardens in a very sheltered micro climate. There are plants growing there which will survive in sheltered spots but not reach the 20-30 feet some have. Amazing.
Today we will walk Goatfell, which is probably going to take 4½ walking hours plus stops. I think we'll be out for 6/6½ hours. This is a double picnic day. I enjoy walking but struggle with one thing. Food and hydration. Usually I can carry enough food but water is another matter. On a 4/5 hour bike ride I'll use at least 3 litres - 4 bottles. I don't carry that much when walking, too much weight. The best solution I've found is plenty of water before setting off. I'm about to start on my second litre for today.

That's warm enough for me. We are hardy souls up here.
Soft southerner me. 16⁰ is going to be great for a quite demanding walk. 👍 Shorts are tempting so I've compromised with zip off legs.
Picnic packed, extra water on board and to carry, washing on line (!!!!!), I am ready.........Mrs P has taken on my usual role of faffing.........I have noted this! 🤣

Now that I've made the definite decision to actually retire next week after fifty one years of 'undetected crime', instead of doing the odd day or two for a while, here's some of the things I definitely won't miss - ! 
Getting up at silly o'clock for an early shift.
Having very cold hands commuting in the winter.
Arriving back home at midnight after a late shift, especially on a Friday.
The 'I hate my job / the supervisors / management / this place' whingers who don't have the bottle to do something about it.
The VERY LOUD radio played for 11 hours of a 12 hour shift at my most recent place of employment.
On the plus side, I've plenty of 'home projects' lined up, two days a week voluntary work, music sessions and there's stacks of places to walk and bike to / around and explore - !

Its 17 deg here at the moment. I have a load of washing outside drying nicely. It won't take long for it to dry today.
