Anglesey is very nice but you may have to learn Welsh. My daughter lives there and she speaks fluent Welsh.

Depends on the area
Beaumaris - not too Welsh
Holyhead -same

The rest - look for a course - based on my experience - at least it helps when you can say the basics

as anothoer point, having lived there for over 10 years - sometimes locasl speak in English but fast and with an accent so it is easy to think it is Welsh when it isn;t
Had an amusing occasion when I was in Bethesda with my daughter who speaks Welsh due to school. There were some ENglish people on the table next to us who were complaining about the people on the other side of them speaking Welsh

My daughter - who was about 9 at the time - leaned over to me and asked why the English were complaining when no-one was speaking Welsh!!

As another little story - it was always weird on the high street when there were a lot of local teenagers around. As they all had been doing Welsh at school since they started Primary school they were mostly pretty fluent.
The conversations at times would switch seamlessly between the 2 languages seamlessly - each person contributing to the conversation based on their normal language or who they were replying to
They didn;t even realise they were doing it
When I was a teacher in Rhyl - lets just say this didn;t happen!

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
It's not important to speak Welsh. In my experience the way you talk to people and interact with them is far more important. Treat the Welsh like idiots and look down your nose at them and you won't last long.

Be nice abd respectful and they will bend over backwards to help and advise you with anything they can.

BIG decision to make.
Do I move house?

Moved here in 1982 and got many brilliant memories but (aged 76) it might be time to call it quits.
Daughter and SiL want to move to Anglesey and want me to go with them. Makes sense in many ways, especially with my surprising change in health.
One important point is that i/we can afford a place with my own facilities.
Lots to get my head around.

That is a biggie Dave - good luck with whatever you decide.

I guess 2 big factors are how deeply you are embedded in your locale and community plus are you really enamoured with Anglesey as a place to live plus its provision of facilities for older people.

Horrible wet day out there and still in bed after late night and deciding whether we cba to get up.

Supposed to be off out to do some shopping; it's non-essential although we do need some Cointreau & strawberries to make our dessert tonight.

No interest in the cycling apart from the Mens Elite Road Race which I think is tomorrow although with a long night planned for tonight I might miss it live.

Anniversary on Tuesday next week so something to look forward to during this dismal weather period, although our 'celebrations' proper are next weekend.

Enjoy your day folks!

I have lived in Wales for 40 years now and I found the Welsh people very warm, friendly and welcoming. I love it here.

My lack of sleep is catching up. I feel quite spaced out, but not actually sleepy

I had that feeling Wednesday and Thursday. Slept very, very badly Monday and Tuesday nights, Wednesday and Thursday I felt quite weird. Couldn't nap during the day, no matter how badly I wanted to.

The lass I went out with was from Bangor, just across the water from Anglesey, and speaking Welsh there is - or at least was 3+ decades ago - very prevalent. A lot of English folk wouldn't get spoken to at all, and I got the feeling they only spoke to me because I was dating one of their own.

I had a nasty bike crash in the Nant Ffrancon pass riding back from hers one time. Threw my Silver Wing well and truly up the road but escaped with only minor road rash. The ambo crew spoke Welsh among themselves and seemed quite delighted that I knew a few phrases.
