Good morning fellow retirees.
Following all the kerfuffle around Mrs TKK's brother dying intestate, we have decided to have our wills done. We did have two wills drawn up by a local solicitor many years ago, but the office is no longer around and we didn't have a copy to keep at home ( as far as I can remember) .
I suppose it is best to use a " proper " Solicitor than one of these cut price jonnies, after all the cost will be coming from the kids inheritance.
Any one had recent experience?

Solicitor with probate experience is best ime.

Cheapo services commonly advertised at stupid prices often load-up the final bill.

NB: the Gov' Will storage facility is a good idea imo.

Also - are your LPA's up to date?

I really must get one done. Having no close relatives left to even arrange my funeral now, I will have to make the lawyer my executor and tell him what I want done and just get the house cleared, expenses paid and the estate can go to charities I support. I certainly don't want my brother or his family getting their hands on a penny.

Get it done! Your brother can claim in Scotland AFAIK if you die intestate.

Morning all :hello:

Sun's out and the birdies are singing.
Bit of a pottering day today. Might do a bit of gardening and then attempt to start MrsD's BSA Bantam, which has stood for 18 years in a shed. That should keep me occupied today.
Clean the spark plug, and make sure it is gapped correctly.
And give it a good push and a bump start. 😁
I need some photos please.

I think the state of the crankshaft seals and crankcase compression after sitting so long is a bigger concern, although it's not without hope.

Interesting bikes. Folk think theyre British bikes. Well, they are, but not in origin. The British stole the design and tooling from DKW at the end of the war and it was sold here as the Bantam. The Soviets did the same and stole an entire BMW bike factory. I guess if you start a war and then go on to,lose it you open yourself up to a hit of lighthearted pilfering.

Yes, do it properly. Preferably a solicitor half your age.
Do lasting power of attorney too! Again someone who is not in your age bracket.
By the time everyone agrees you are gaga you are gaga. Then it gets really complicated.

Barnet,
The carpets downstairs were looking a bit grubby, so I got the machine out and gave them a going over. The tank that holds the waste water always looks so muddy when I've finished.
Lunch was left over Lamb madras, sag aloo and rice from the other evenings take away.
Now to cut the grass as it has dried off enough.
Busy busy busy.
