The lull before the storm, there is not a breath of wind out side, but tonight they say up to 80mph winds expected, they are even going to close Itchen Bridge OK it is 91 feet tall, but it is very unusual, they normally just stop high sided vehicles.
With the ground being very wet I think there will be a lot of trees going over, so stay away from trees and keep safe.

Seems like our daughter in law has done it again

It is my wife's son's 40th birthday in December and his partner wants to organise a nice meal for the family

So she has chosen a decent restaurant - which is fine

Problem is that it is miles away - not too far for them and her family (i.e. sister, her partner, mother and father)
but an EXTRA 30-45 minutes for us and his family

we are OK - we are retired and can afford to just stay in a nearby Premier Inn overnight

but the rest of the family are not all that well off - either young and just starting off in basic jobs - some with kids
or older and "just managing"

but she can be rather selfish at times and really only thinks of things from her own point of view

I can imagine it being a nice meal in a nice place - but only her side of the family plus the two of us

few of his family and none of his old mates

on top of which she has decided on a Sunday night - so a lot have work in the morning - rather than Saturday when they wouldn't - again - neither of them work a standard 9-5 - shifts and all that

so I have a grumpy wife to deal wife

had the same problem with her on his 30th

tomorrow should be dicey - we are picking the kids up from school and looking after them until she gets home from work - I think I'll be in the kitchen!

A Bit of a disappointing day today, I was hoping to get away with just having the flat roof over the kitchen repaired, but once he started work on it it soon became apparent it was b******d, it looked old when we moved in 15 years ago, the bloke who installed it had made a couple of mistakes as well, when the roofer told me I went over what he'd found with him in detail and reluctantly agreed to have it replaced, I also managed to negotiate £700 of the quote, the price was probably a bit high anyway. They come back tomorrow to finish it off.

You will now have piece of mind that the roof is good for 20 odd years though.

Yes, it could outlast us, I just could have done without a bill like that this time of year

I don't think there is a good time, any time of the year to have to pay out for a new roof. But it has to be done.
