I came late to cycling after my silly bone marrow decided to play up and put paid to my endurance. Found I could pedal and rest, pedal and rest while still keeping forward momentum. Love it now, cycling with Mrs Tkk on our various adventures, slow and steady and as we ride Bromptons, if the worst comes to the worst we can fold them and get a taxi / bus.
My running milestones were:
Fastest: 2h 48m ( Cherbourg Marathon )
Furthest run in a day 141 miles 401 yards ( Solihull )
Longest: 450 miles in 9 days ( Mizen head to Malin Head via Dublin )
Kept me nice and slim 😁
In your previous post I think you said you started running in 1981. I started in 1981 too - inspired by the 1st London marathon.
Well, I guess I was more a jogger than a runner. My first run was about 600m in a pair of Dunlop Green Flash (not for running!) I was puffed out at age 25.
Got more serious about it and eventually had a routine of 5 miles every night after work Mon-Fri and 1 x 10 miler on one of the weekend days.
I could knock out 5 miles in 35 mins but 10 miles took the time to 90 mins.
I managed 1 x 15 miler in around 145 mins and was totally goosed. I was never going to break any records and this put paid to my embryonic marathon dreams.
Kept this up for around 5 years until a big job promotion (lots more travel and even longer working hours) put paid to it.😪
2:48 is good going. My best 12 miler was about 1:50.
Good going there!
