There was such a thing called home responsibilities protection. While a mother was at home looking after the kids, NI contributions should have been accrued. In some cases though it wasn't and the records were destroyed after a certain length of time. This happened to me. I didn't have this added to my NI record.

You can go online and apply for that time to be added to your NI record. I think there are lots of people who have done it. I havmt heard back yet. Its been months. I might have to contact them again just to remind them I did it online and kept a copy so I can just print it off and send it to them

Sue got that 'allownce' for looking after our children.
She also got it for looking after her mum in her later years.
I/we then had the option to pay a lump sum to top her NI payment which we did as it was a no brainer.
I assume the same rules apply today.

Re State Pension & contributions, HMRC have assistance and info ~HERE ~
You need a gov gateway account which, if you haven't already got, has a lot of hoops to jump through to get! (unless it's changed now)

I am going to get slightly less than the full amount, but I thought that would be the case. As well as being one year short of 35 years contributions, I think the prison service did a contracted out thingy that affected it too. It’ll still feel like a nice bonus when it starts though.

Bit of a damp, drizzly start here but still mild.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

You can in fact at the moment you can top up 10 years worth if my memory is correct, however that will be stopping soon and it will go back to the normal number of years you can top up.

good morning from a misty Dorset. Last minute blood test at 09:00 ( good old oncology department, no waiting around as they have their own setup) then dash back for an online chat with a friend who lives in San Sebastián. Day 3 of week 3 of the kitchen project and the base units are starting to go in. With our walls being higglety-pigglety there's been a lot of adjustments, with red laser lines and giant spirit levels all over the shop, it's like an episode of Blade Runner 😁

Good morning. A touch of frost and a beautiful day on the way. Not much to report but I have had a terrible experience earlier.........unusually I used the New Posts button. I wandered into a discussion re helmets........it's OK.......I have survived......:boxing::popcorn:

I must crack on. A few very minor chores beckon, morning weights and then an Aldi dash and collect my bike. All to be done by 10.00 as I have to be at a talk on Ageing and Retirement at 10.30!!

Izzy dizzy, let's get busy!!
