I do understand the risks very well.
I'm sure that a lot of riders would be happy to have started yesterday.
The decision to not run was probably based on the views of the top riders - I doubt they canvassed the whole field.
You ride to the conditions, wet, dry, windy or misty. It's an island in the middle of the Irish Sea. Have the organisers forgotten that?

The views of the top riders are the views that matter, they are the guys doing 135 mph laps. It was not the damp patches but the wind , a couple of riders hurt but nobody killed this year . Hickman very lucky to come away alive after 140 mph crash and Michael Rutter crashed badly enough on a little bike. Rutter very experienced and safe rider . I remember his dad Tony going into a field on the way up the mountain one year. When Davy Morgan got killed I was surprised, as he was a very safe pair of hands and always rode within himself. The speeds are much faster now and I believe somebody would have been killed in the Senior TT , probably somebody less experienced and less talented than the top guys. When the cancellation of the senior was announced over the speakers there was a round of applause from the spectators. That alone speaks volumes

I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with much of that.

Wish mine was.
I'm frightened of getting too far from the bog.

I still think mine is the iron tablets, I will reduce them and see what happens.

Yep I find I often do the same, which base layer to wear, will I need arm warmers etc. By far the most thinking though goes into route(unless on a definite planned one) as I always try and get the tailwind home. I'll regularly lie in bed going over which way to go etc. I find it quite enjoyable in a perverse way but I do spend way more time than I should contemplating which roads to take!

Interesting. We hardly ever think about the wind other than is it safe to go out. If we head west towards the coast any wind will turn into a headwind if it comes from N, S, W. An easterly gives a tailwind out and a battle home. If we head east towards the hills we just get a different set of challenges! 🤣

Today's ride had to be curtailed as time ran short. One of my buddies got through three tubes!!!! On the third I inspected the tyre while he fiddled around. I suggested a new tyre, he had to concede this might be a plan. Only 44 miles today instead of the expected 55-60.

No rain though. One advantage of lending your friend a tube is rooting about in your bag. I discovered my rain jacker is not in there. Potentially this is an issue. My afternoon will now involve searching high and low for said jacket. Bugger! 🤨

When I was out for a ride something annoying happened

I was riding along the canal bank
at that point there is only a narrow path in the grass on the tow path - probably 2-3 feet wide

SOme people were walking towards me and had clearly seen me
As aalways I slowed down a lot as I approached them and was about to stop or go onto the grass when they moved onto the grass themselves
on the "non canal" side

As I passed one of the women said
"booboo booboo boo the bike"

OK - my hearing is not all that great and I was concentrating on looking at 5 people and keeping the bike in the middle of the paths
so I wasn;t expecting any verbal interaction

but she was sort of smiling

so I have no clue whether she was saying something nice about the bike
something bad about the bike
something about riding the bike on the tow path (it is a cycle path as well but a lot of people don;t seem to know that)

or what

I said "pardon" buy by then I was sort of past her so I have no idea if it was a proper response to what she said or not

all of which is annoying!!!
