Good morning all fellow retirees.
It's a bit cloudy out there at the moment, but due to be a bit humid and the temperature is due to get up to 28⁰.
An email came in overnight from the library, the book i requested is in, I might cycle up there later this morning to collect it. It's the latest Ian Rankin Rebus novel. On a Sunday morning we can access the library using the membership card to get into the building, although it is staffed from 2pm.
I'll be out with the dog soon before it gets too warm, and the front garden needs a drop of water on it, it is very dry.
The cats have been fed and watered, so has muttley. Time for my mug of tea. :cuppa:

Good morning, just been woken by granddaughter who is now snuggling next to me and totally absorbed in reading her graphic novel. She's growing so quickly it looks like the Beano subscription won't be renewed this year and there'll be something more advanced. Meanwhile, we have been invited to a hedgehog fete today, at a village somewhere near Dorchester 🦔🦔.

Well, the fete went OK yesterday.

Slight panic beforehand as the main organiser got a cancellation date for a hip replacement just 4 days prior and had to duck out. I volunteered to take his place, but didnt really have a clue.

I was assisted by another parish councillor. She was mustard keen but was in her 80s and the heat was clearly making her wilt so once everything was running I sent her home and told her I'd phone her if I needed her.

So I was left on my own and didn't have a clue!

Bouncy castle man cancelled due to the wind. Fair enough, I've left the clerk chase him for a refund.

The TURDIS's didn't show, so the clerk can chase them for a refund as well.

The dog show cancelled because the heat was too much for the dogs.

I took the decision to drop the fun run to one lap due to the heat, and that passed without incident.

Somehow I managed to bullsheet my way though the day.

The adjacent church kept me hydrated with tea, which was very nice of them, and I took the opportunity after to drop in and thank them and introduce myself to the new lady padre.

So it wasn't the best it could gave been, but I managed to somehow pull it off...just.

I think I'll take a greater involvement next year, maybe even be the main organiser, and I've several ideas to smooth things along;

Numbered pitches allocated in advance and marked out the night before.

A padlock with a key, not a code one that you cant see to read the code because it's hidden behind an anti tamper box. Thanks to the passing young person than managed it for me!

Younger volunteers. I'll see if some of Mini D's friends would be willing to help out jn exchange for a slap up McDonalds or something. Hell I'd even pay for thwt myself.

Comms. I'll provide walkie talkies next year.

Proper parish council fluorescent so we're easily identifiable.

And ill use my camper as an ops base. Out of the elements, fridge of chilled beverages, somewhere to sit.

Sound like good ideas
Sometimes you just have to be involved a bit to see the real problems and then you can sort them out

I reckon it'll run like a clock next year!
