I politely listened for a few minutes and told them I was a member of the Church of Scotland so not really interested. Hopefully they'll take the hint.

They used to have to put a handwritten form in every month showing how many hours they had spent "preaching" that month. 10 hours per person (what they call publishers) is the target.
The form also had slots for them to report how many magazines/booklets they had left with people.......each magazine was called a 'placement'
The written form is no longer obliged so they can relax a bit but the longer they can spend at your door means they need to spend less time at other doors.

Handy to have your own blood pressure monitor. They are not overly expensive.

The Doc won't accept that though, she needs to see it for herself (i imagine).
BTW I have never had BP problems, it's always been good.

I've got one that I use, it's the same make as the one the doctor uses.
An Omron M2, only £30 .

But, seriously, how would that help me?
The Doc wants a blood test ie 'take blood' before my BP is taken.
I can't imagine her being satisfied with any reading that I take.
As I said to Mo, in my 78 years I have never had a BP problem (apart from after my main cancer op').

I have two stone Buddhas on short piers either side of the step down to our front door. Thinking of getting an orange robe and hanging it on a hook by the front door so I can don it quickly if the doorbell camera spots a JW. 😁

My brother used to wind them up, he told one pair that he thought nuclear war was a good thing and we should have more "to keep the population down". They kept away from him after that.

I normally interrupt them

Not rudely - just don't think it is right to waste their time when I will not accept anything they say anyway

you can be nice to them without listening to their script

I used to know someone who had a collection of leaflets from his normal church and always insisted on getting them to take some away with them
Which was quite funny

Our lot prefer home readings

it eliminates the "White Coat Syndrome" that some people get - including me

One GP doubted me once, but I had something else to discuss, so I said to try it again in a few minutes
he also had to go and get something
by the time he got back and did it again, it had dropped to normal

he was a good doctor and listened - he looked at the reading and commented that he had never believed in that before but would think agian now

use Father Jacks technique to get rid of them ( I did this a few years ago, they were very puzzled ! ), my wife was disgusted at me and became angry after they went away , said I was disgusting to two young people at the door . I enjoyed it a lot !!

I will not sit here and allow you to take the name of Father Jack in vain.......he was a hero of mine.
Mrs Doyle was my wife's heroine.
