Good morning. Wet

The good news is I have passed the stairs test with flying colours. NO! Not getting up them but coming down. After yesterday's ride a good indication of tiredness in the legs is how much it hurts to walk downstairs. Yesterday I was blitzed. Blew up. First 45 miles at 15.5 average was good, slotted in well with the guys. Last 6/7 I crawled. This is unusual, yes I slow sometimes but this was left for dead - not in an unkind way. Not a great feeling but my buddies and I are a tight group; we know how it works, how to behave - unlike the vast majority in our club - and crucially they know how my life has been the past 18 months. After a lot of thought, checking stats etc (they can be useful) the only conclusion can be I was simply very tired from the week, not the ride.

Onwards. The morning will be spent on admin stuff. This afternoon it's my cards group and then I'm off to Manchester for Granddad duties. #2's parents are in London for their company Christmas bash. I will collect the small one from nursery, do all the evening stuff, sleepover and then drop her at nursery on Friday morning. I then have to dash home and take Mrs P for her treatment.

The plan for this evening is to take a nice can of Rivington ale with me, brewed three miles away, and settle in for a couple of episodes of the the Beast in Me on Netflix. Highly recommended, very good first two episodes.

Next up stretches and weights before I dash out to buy a Christmas tree.

Just back another little wander as there’s rain due this afternoon. Pretty chilly out.

Grandaughter insists that I have to have a race down the stairs by sitting on our bottoms and bumping down. She always wins! Your mention of Rivington Ale reminded me that I wore Ron Hill " Rivington Pike " trail shoes when we tackled the Pennine Way back in '88. They had a distinct sole pattern which came in useful in a forested section as we could follow the leading groups tracks in the muddy ground.

Ah, stair bumps. #1 used to insist on this. Our stairs are narrow cottage width - probably illegal - we can't both fit. She always had one step advantage

The 90⁰ turn at the bottom was tricky 😂😂

Lusso offer a Rivington cycle jersey which I wear with pride in late autumn/early spring

Made the most of a rare break in the utterly crap weather and got out in the actual sunshine. A very enjoyable 32 miles around the local coast roads.
