I've just been reading about it.
That's an awful lot of water to lose. Plus, how are they going to retrieve the boats? Maybe when they plug the hole and refill the canal they hope the boats will refloat on their own.

I went to see my daughter this morning and picked up a few odds and side on the way back.
Of course the bin was here. He let himself in and made himself a cup of tea it was a good job made enough casserole for the 3 of us. 😆

@BoldonLad thank you for thinking of me but a long way from there on the river. If that drains we're all buggered as it is tidal.

They generally try to build a dam and refloat the ones a bit away from the breach
then the other have to be lifted by a crane
Good Luck finding ground solid enough for the crane to stand on - but it's been done before and will be done again
They had the same problem on the Bridgewater canal about a year ago - they are just getting to repair it now - took that long to stabilise the ground and everything

my first thought was "Oh shame - he wasn;t all that old"
Then I remembered - I was not forgetting how old he was
I was forgetting how old I am getting so he seemed "not all that old" in comparison of my viewpoint fo myself

Well that’s me done for Christmas .
Washing done, last minute shopping for Christmas veg and wine done, last of the the presents wrapped, done.
This is just to make sure I don’t have to go any where near a shop or especially a supermarket this close to Christmas 😂😀.
