Good morning, I see the post I was composing yesterday somehow got truncated and posted this morning. A technical glitch, I'm not losing it honest...
Tuesday isn't bin day, it should be but this is the last week of catching up from the yuletide break, back to regular bin days next week. Walking group followed by pub for a natter this morning, then get the upstairs bathroom shipshape for the plumbers visit tomorrow as we're having a new bog fitted, a " comfort " one is what they're called apparently.

Back from walking them dogs. Geddy pulls like a cart horse, I now have one arm longer than the other. Will have to break him outmof that. Bruce, on themother hand, is as good as,gold and trots alongside on a slack lead.

Teddy, the grandkids Bonkers Cockerpoo, used to pull, too, but they got a kind of strap thing that sits loosely over his snout.
It's worked wonders. He still does twice as many miles as he meanders & weaves his way from sniffs to more exciting smells but the pulling has stopped.

Sounds like a Halti. Im not keen on them for puppies while their bones are developing, but they certainly stop the pulling.

Ill put him on the V lead tomorrow so he'll be pulling Bruce and ill only get some of the strain. Im sure Bruce will thank me!

Mike, a friend and a very good runner has a Vizsla. He competes in " Canicross " events ( cross country racing with your dog on a waist harness). Some great tales of being dragged across streams when his dog sees something interesting, being in the lead approaching the finish and his dog decides it's time for a dump. It has kept him extremely fit over the years.

Yes, that's the one. A Halti. It's worked wonders with Teddy without any apparent discomfort for him which is important!
Training whilst young is the best thing, though, isn't it..

Mike, a friend and a very good runner has a Vizsla. He competes in " Canicross " events ( cross country racing with your dog on a waist harness). Some great tales of being dragged across streams when his dog sees something interesting, being in the lead approaching the finish and his dog decides it's time for a dump. It has kept him extremely fit over the years.

Until I screwed my achilles last spring I used to run with Bruce on a waist harness. Im sure the bigwigs at Garmin were impressed with my age-record times for the mile!

When I was younger Imhad a proper running coach and he reckoned with my build and lungs I would be good for a sub 4 mile, and in middle age I regret not seriously having a go at it. Sadly I now couldn't run to catch a bus and I do miss it

@PeteXXX aye lad, getting the training ingrained while young is key. He'll get there, he already knows the drill for safely crossing the road and the voice commands that go along with it.

We got a Haltie for Millie when she was young, worked a treat. Stopped her pulling almost immediately. Being a collie she was a bit overly energetic.

They do work remarkably well without the dog seemingly knowing it's wearing it.

My Alsatian had a Halti - she hated it
it did stop her pulling, but only because she was constantly trying to walk on one front paw and get the other one under the strap and pull it off

then she walked quite happily with it just round her chest

she actually walked best with one of those metal choke collars - which I did not approve of
but with her it tightened around her chest, not her throat
and I realised that she had a system - she moved ahead of me until it clicked of=ver a link
then kept on until the next one click - then kept it like that
if it clicked again she had got too far ahead and slowed down a bit

it worked for her - wouldn;t use it on another dog but she was strange
it is still hanging up in the shed here with the lead I had for her - can;t get rid of it!
