Fortunately it's easily treatable with modern day antibiotics.

Actually, I do have vague childhood memories of being diagnosed with Scarlet Fever. I do not recall being particularly unwell, but, I do remember "a man" arriving to "fumigate" the house. No idea what he used to "fumigate", I just recall seeing him seal doors shut with wide tape, and, then spray "something" about the place. Since I am still here, 74 years later, I assume:

a) it worked
b) what ever he sprayed was not toxic to small boys

I knew nothing other than the name. I've done a bit of reading and yes it's been on the increase but is now on par with 2023. It's highly contagious, airborne spread so you can imagine how easily it spreads in a nursery.

After 24 hous on antibiotics the child is no longer infectious.
