Barnet,
I get a reduced state pension due having a superannuated NHS pension. I also had had to top my national insurance payments despite paying in for 47 years so as to get the maximum ( for me) state pension.

You, like myself and other public servants were automatically transferred out of serps, so we payed slightly less NI, which meant we get a slightly less state pension, unless like yourself you topped it up.

All 3 of mine called me Gwandrad for years as the eldest couldn't say grand and the others just copied him. Later on it became a joke and now it's granddad.
Sue insisted on Nana as our surname is Smith and she refused to be a granny Smith.

I am Pops
because when the first one was born my wife and I had only just started being a couple

so the bloke that was around when her son was growing up was the person he thought of as his Dad
Lets just say that his Mum was not in agreement
but he was the nearest he had to a Dad - so I felt he had the right to be the GranDad

The others have just followed their big sister

seems to help get rid of any confusion as well

I expected that

What I am worried about if people who have never had to deal with tax

and have always earned very little
and are probably scared of the whole thing
I know a few family members that this would cover
and some of my clients with AgeUK would probably come into that category as well

Some of these people would be serious worried about it - positively scared

Now I don;t thing this is necessarily a problem
By wife watched the House of Commons most days and watches all the Politics programmes
she say that it has been stated very clearly - from the Dispatch Box - that people whose sole income is the OAP WILL NOT have to pay any tax

which is fine - as it should be

question is whether "they" have thought to make sure that people also do not get any letters through the post that they might find to be scary

sometimes clever people fail to think - or understand - of how their actions and communications will be seen by some other people

That is interesting - it does look like Rachel from Accounts has stated that FOR THE DURATION OF THIS PARLIAMENT that people whose sole source of income is the State Pension will not be taxed if it exceeds the Personal Tax Allowance.

Again, you learn something every day!

I've not paid any tax since June 1989
My works pension is so low they must have a bloody good laugh when they give it to me.

Don't want to nit-pick, but, that should read "income tax", I am sure you have paid Council tax, Vehicle Excise duty, Insurance premium tax, VAT etc etc.

If you have managed to avoid paying the above, perhaps you could sell your technique? 😂

Yes, I did see a TV "interview" where Rachel said that. I think the interview may have been with Martin Lewis.

Incidentally, Martin Lewis also featured discussion on the transfer of personal allowance between married/civil partnership couples, on one of his recent programs.

Good morning. I bring good news to all old farts.
It is the date of my birth today (I have reached the giddy age of 79) and I have decided to grant all on here a day off work. You are free to do exactly as you wish**
**by "as you wish" I obviously mean what your wife permits or wants you to do.
My daughter and son are taking me for lunch at a nice Chinese restaurant.
Sunny/rainy today.
Weekend is supposed to reach 13°.

Happy birthday 🥳

Just had an argument with Mrs Ds lease company besaiee they refused to put new wipers on her car. Theyre nearly 30k miles old and knackered.

I called their bluff and told them to shove it, so its going back Friday. They tried tomwhjne and whinge and offeredmtk replace the wipers butnit was too late - a comkany has knly one chandemtkmpiss me off the. Thwts it. The whole point of leasing was its supposed to be hassle free, but when you can see out the windscreen in the pithing rain and they wont replace the wipers the hassle free starts to become very tiresome.

On a happier note, the local Volvo dealermhas an XC40 recharge twin motor with delivery miles for a good price, so going to loom at thwtnfor a bit. 408BHP, so the tyee bill should be impressive.
