I will say good morning though it still very dark out there. My phone tells me its raining and will be, on and off for the next 10 days. Well it looks like that was our summer, gone now.
So..... what's on today.
1. A local pub has a free social thingy called Chatterbox for retired people this morning (every other Tuesday). It goes from 10.00-12.00. Free tea/coffee and biscuits. I am going to 'bite the bullet' and give it a try.
2. A trip to the tip. Some big pieces of carpet left over. I was hoping someone would make use of it but its just been sat on the patio under cover.
3. Getting a piece of said carpet edged and made into a rug/runner for the conservatory.
4. Feet up and watch a video. Ive not got any porn so it will be a film or music.

Good morning all.
A cloudy start to the day here with a strong breeze.
Sainsbury's are delivering the weekly goodies between 9 and 10am.
@Dave7 we had some leftover carpet that we cut to size to make rugs of various sizes. The edging was easy to use and the project worked really well.

Morning all :hello:

Got a chap coming round at lunchtime needing his gears sorting out on a mountain bike. Said he can do brakes, but is clueless on gears. Will likely turn out to be an education for him.
The pup slept well last night. She seems very calm compared to the terriers we've had.

Mrs O’s car in for service today. That’s a four mile round trip walk after leaving it and to go back and fetch it

What do you get for that apart from roads and rubbish?

CouncilTax.jpg

Above is the breakdown of where our Council Tax money supposedly goes, complete with a photograph of our rather well nourished Council Leader 😂

Adult Social Care, Children Social Care, Public Health and Education are the biggest areas of expenditure.

You will also notice that Council Tax is less than 50% of the funding, slightly over 50% comes from Central Government (still from us taxpayers of course, just a different pocket), this is the so called "Fair Funding Settlement" in the list of incomes.

UK Local Government funding and costs are a mystery to me. Mrs @BoldonLad and myself did, at one time, contemplate buying a house in France. Me, being a practical sort, thought of the possible "hidden costs" (eg Local Authority taxes). I was amazed to find that, although every village we looked in had it's own Mairee (Town Hall), complete with Mayor and various staff, the equivalent of Council tax was about 1/10th of the UK. Each village had roads, street lights, drains, etc as one would expect in mainland Europe, and there were no vagabond children or abandoned elderly people in the streets or, well kept, local parks.

How did they do it, I asked myself?
