Last weeks parkrun at Blandford Forum saw one of the local guys run 17:42 which is an excellent time ( though remember, it's a run NOT a race ). Quite an impressive time for 5k, especially as Julian is in the 65-70 age category 😮

Just checked the results. 162 finishers which is decent for the first one given they kept it very low key and didn’t really advertise as they wanted to make sure the logistics worked ok.

Morning all . Been up early as I had to take Mrs exlaser to the start of her club ride. I did have to reward my saintly self sacrifice by stopping on the way home for coffee and a cake . Just because I am not cycling much doesn’t mean I cannot have a cyclists treat. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜€
Weather looks ok for today and tomorrow, no high winds anyway. I havnt sailed for three weeks because of them and it beginning to get me down . I’ve always known once the wind gusts get above 30mph I am going to be in trouble but when I was younger I would still go out , capsize a few times, swim about a bit , then come in and retire and think it was fun. šŸ˜€ These days i don’t seem to bounce so well šŸ˜‚ and if i do that capsizing and swimming thing too much, i am in pain for weeks ā˜¹ļø.
Weather forecast is spot on for tomorrow, fingers crossed.
Have a good day folks .

Three more engine stands fabricated - just need to spray them and they'll be ready to sell.

Went out on Bertie Bantam first thing; just up to the village to post something.
Every time I park it, I come back to find some misty eyed old chap ogling it. It then takes me 10 minutes answering questions and hearing about how they had one back in the day, before I can get away.

One of my sailing club friends started doing parkruns early last year after not running for years and is really enjoying them . He says it’s the friendly people and atmosphere that keeps him doing them . šŸ˜€

The problem with these things is it gets hard to find volunteers. Everyone wants to run but not many want to give up time to Marshall, time keep, scan barcodes, etc.

I'm on 250 parkruns and 244 volunteer credits*
* you only get 1 credit per event, but numerous times I have filled several volunteer roles at a single event ( setup, pacing, report writing etc )
Poole can get a bit manic at times, regularly getting 1000+ finishers and nearly 1400 recently. One of my more stressful roles was " funnel manager " as people push for the line, cross it and then stop to catch their breath, meanwhile there's a constant stream of runners so it's important to keep everyone moving. We have two finish funnels at Poole each of which lead to a long meandering airport check in style line leading to the people doing the barcode scanning šŸ¤”

I do wonder why moderately serious runners (anyone who is capable of <6 minute miles is in this category, imo) turn out for such a short event.

I am probably missing something.

Yes, they're very popular amongst tha fast boys and girls. We sometimes get groups from Southampton for example having a club outing with the top runners battling it out. Melissa Courtney ran 15:31 and Ben Brown ran 14:32 at Poole, but perhaps the most impressive of all was the 9 year old who ran 17:40 😮

No medals at parkrun. It’s just supposed to be fun for the majority but the keen runners use it as a good workout.

Another wander done. Nearly 29,000 steps for the day. That will do me.

As Tom Jones once sang, " it's not unusual " to tag parkrun on to the end of a long training run, and surprising what pace is left in legs that felt knackered before getting dragged around that last 5k
