Grandkids are coming over this afternoon and staying the night

Happens quite often during school hols as their parents are both working - their Mum works Wedneday through the weekend normally

not sure what we will do tomorrow - but looks like 1 or two short walks - we shall see

Morning all . Wow it’s a little warm today already.
Well I seem to have been dragged into areas of this forum I’ve never been before and I don’t mean the political threads . 😀 After making the silly decision to disagree with a railway enthusiast on the RIP Bill Oddie thread . I ended up on the Railway Enthusiast thread . Well all I will say is I won’t be visiting again 😂 ( At this point I must make my apologies to @Paulus as I know he does visit there and this isn’t directed at him 🙂)
Anyway have a good day everyone and try and stay as cool as you can .

She does try and do these things . It’s what so frustrating as the feed back she gets about her interview technique is always good and very positive but she doesn’t get the job. ☹️

Something else I learned.
The interviewer might have narrowed the prospects down and be genuinely struggling to decide.
If possible, tell her to phone the interviewer, ask him if he has made any decision and tell him how much she wants to work for THAT COMPANY and why. Again it might swing it.

When i was a divisional manager for a company owned by Shell I was struggling to decide between 2 applicant. I favoured A but applicant B phoned me as above......I gave him the job.

Hello again from the café in Upton County Park. I have just demolished a slice of cherry cake and am glugging on a " Jimmy's Mocha Iced Coffee ". I have cut short my planned walk as my legs are feeling weary after only 4k🤔. I shall head back home and try again tomorrow. As I approached the café I saw a load of people setting up gazebos, it's the Dorset Wildlife Trust who are having a free children's activity day😎

Back from my walk. Managed spot on 4 miles.
Good job i took a bottle of juice.
Part of the walk takes me through the former green belt woodland which has now gone for them to build 1200 houses. The footpath has been a right of way for hundreds of years but cranes and wagons have really churned it up in parts.

The 1200 houses mean there is nowhere for surface water to drain so they have built 2 of these collection ponds.

This is the right of way. You can see the footpath goes over the M62 which was built in 1972......the had to built the bridge to maintain right of way.
the footpath splits here and was as far as I got. It was hot hot hot.

Destructive start to today after breakfast and coffee.

Got the 'wall' down in the kitchen cupboard before it got too hot; was quite quick actually as basically the wall was mostly held up with the plaster so once that was off it didn't take much to remove the bricks.

All cleaned out now so next stage is working out what wood/plaster board we'll need to line it out and source a usb/battery light.

Not doing much for the rest of the day , might start another book from the pile i have waiting.

I have similar ones to these, one hanging up under the stairs, one under a bathroom cabinet. USB rechargeable which seems to last forever. The one in the bathroom is set to low power and only triggers for about 20 seconds when someone enters the bathroom after dark which saves switching on the overhead light

I never had to go through extensive interviews for high flying jobs
I was a centre lathe turner for most of my life and only worked for 3 different firms. Each time, the interview was practically only one question : How much experience do you have?
In those days, there was very few CNC,'s which is just as well as I have no experience in those but old fashioned turner's were still needed then.
My best years of working for an employer was between 1972 and 1982. I had a great boss who was also a pilot and owned his own twin engines plane.
He took me to Geneva one day as a translater for a new client in Switzerland.
Those were the days .

Not having a lot of luck today, cleaned my strip light from under the kitchen cupboard
and now it won't work, I think the tube has gone.
Had early lunch to go out for a walk, just seen on my weather station it's 37.7c
so that's cancelled, may go later when it has cooled off a bit

Music practiced, a load of admin done for the parish council- were looking to take a supplier to small claims court and I desftly volunteered to run with it - dogs briefly walked, lunch now being nibbled.

That takes me back . I did my apprenticeship back in the late 70s early 80s and spent nearly decade as a capstan lathe setter . I didn’t really want to leave but I had just got married and went to ask for raise of £10 a week ( they paid everyone differently so I knew I was being underpaid) , which they refused. So I went to work at Peugeot on the line in the Body in white , for £25 a week more plus a shift premium of 30% when on nights . That extra money was very useful with the big jumps in interest rates around that time.
Still have all my tools, verniers, gauges , conversion tables etc in a toolbox in the shed , but they havnt been used in anger since 1987/88. 🙂
