SpokeyDokey

69, & my GP says I will officially be old at 70!

Grey, grim and thoroughly dispiriting.

Not going for a walk in the drizzle.

We are staying in bed until noon for Kindle & cuddles and getting the open fire lit as soon as we are up. Then snuggling in front of it.

Will fit a gym session in later on.

An action-packed day!

Enjoy whatever you are up to today.

As I said, daughter and SiL went on a canal boat this weekend.
Also as mentioned, on ebikers ride is the Preston Brook tunnel which is (i think) at 1100 mtrs the longest canal tunnel in Europe with no towpath. They went through it yesterday. As its narrow they let 1 or 2 through then switch ends to let them through the other direction. The journey through takes 20-25 minutes.

I ride past it - OK, over it as that is where the "tow-path" goes - and there are notices

boats in one direction can start between 00 minutes past the hour until 15
then boats from the other direction can come through from 30 until 45

so 15 minutes for a slow boat to get through after the last time to start

I presume it works OK as the sign is quite old and has never changed

although I have seen locals ignore it as "they know better" - which may or may not be true!

Yesterday it took less than 20 minutes but coming back they were stuck behind a slow boat leaving large bow waves....that took 27 minutes.

Today, believe it or not, is international hug a bassist day.
I don’t know but I think you might have made that up 😂😂😂😀😀

On the other hand they probably need it as they are often the unsung hero’s in a lot of bands .

Barnet,
Done blood test
done Wordle - that was close!

new cycling trouser arrived - water resistant and not jeans - which should make winter riding less of a problem

off to an AgeUK thing in an "apartment block" - one of those where you have to be over 60 or something
seems like a nice one - there is a cafe and it is always full of people chatting

should have gone for a ride yesterday late afternoon
but I dozed off and by the time I woke up it was too late!

anyway - better get ready

May I ask what make of cycling trousers you bought?
I am thinking of buying some, but not sure of where to start.

Barnet,
A bit of a damp drizzlely day today.
A shortish ride done earlier after vacuuming the downstairs, now waiting for our daughter to make her grand entrance.

Been shopping, thrifting and had the Flu vax at Boots.

Pre booked online and got done on time and no fuss, n o issues so far,,,,

BH nabbed a pair of Russell and Bromley boots at one of the chazzers so she's well pleased.

And had beans on toast ( with a bit of Turkish pepper and some chilli sauce) and a cup of tea when we got back.

Trespass

actually walking trousers
because I don;t want padding and Lycra and all that

saw an article in a newspaper this morning where she described her husband as a
MABNILYDTPDP
Middle Aged Bloke Not In Lycra Y Due To Possibility of Divorce Proceedings
which sums up my attitude!

but riding in jeans in cold wet weather is not the perfect alternative!!!

Picked Trespass as they have different leg lengths
because - and this may be news to clothes designers for "outdoor wear" - people sometimes have non-standard legs!!!
(my wife is 4 foot 11 - she can go on about clothes designers for several hours!!!!)

Just come back from an AgeUK thing in an appartment block for old people

We were helping a couple of ladies and their friend was around as well
they were chatting about (i.e. gossiping) things
and one fo the blokes in the place was mentioned

One of them said "Oh Yes - Fred does like the Ladies"
the other said "Yeah - problem is he doesn;t like them for long!!!"

sums him up (Fred is not his real name - obviously)
he is one of those bloke who is always popular with the women around - but, as a bloke - I can see not good reason why
but we have helped him in the past and if half his stories are even partly true - he has always been like that
was happily married for many years - and faithful - but still had female frineds and - according to him - always had "offers"

funny old world!
