I find the whole coffee 'scene' a bit bizzarre, all that effort to make something that tastes no different to a cup of instant, imo.

And as for people buzzing and bouncing off the walls post-a-tiny-cup-of-coffee, that sounds like a collective myth people have bought into for FOMO.

Everyone to there own, I've been into my coffee since long before it became fashionable, when the only time people had a real cup of coffee was when they went to a posh restaurant, an Italian café or abroad on holiday.

Like Spokey says, I have never had any sort of buzz from coffee.
I have a Tassimo pod machine but out of their whole range of pods I only use the grande as its the only one that gives me a full(ish) mug.
I also enjoy alternating with instant coffee and as I like it to actually taste then I use 11/2 tp in a mug.

We’ve had this one about 3 years now and it’s great, makes really good coffee and it’s used constantly as we work from home.

I would have to disagree with you on this. I can take you to cafes across Lancashire, cycling is not obligatory, that offer absolutely superb coffee...........I could then take you to places offering dishwater. There truly is a difference. I'm no connoisseur, just know what I like.

One thing @tarric overlooked, IMO, is temperature. The served coffee should be just slightly too hot to drink, not left sitting for ten minutes to cool down.

Me and my buddies are famed for this. Anyone who joins us on a ride can be assured of good coffee and cake.

On the other hand I was taken to Rivington Barn last week. This is what the served as a flat white. It was so poor I did a Google review. A reasoned one, but only one star.

It's not the machine that counts, it's freshness and roast date, origin of the beans, processing method, bean variety, there are four main types of bean sold commercially but the likelihood is the coffee most people drink comes from only two varieties, Arabica and Robusta as they make up about 99% of all coffee beans sold and finally roast level. It's a bit of a rabbit hole if you really want to get into it. So you can spend thousands to impress friends and family but still make a shite cup of coffee.
