Unfortunately the game is becoming a farce.

Carley is now making a mockery of this.
Absolute lack of empathy for the situation.

Really annoying that props get binned because their scrum isn't as good as the opposition. A winger doesn't get carded for his opposite number scoring a hatrick

What’s he supposed to do? Porter has turned in on virtually every scrum. It’s so blatant even I can see it.

Yes he’s applying the laws. Porter is doing all he can but I do think penalties and cards for simply not being as strong as the guy in front is not quite right. Complicated to fix though.

Penalties and cards are for law infringements.
If your scrum isn't strong enough to hold the opposition then you can get pushed all the way to the try line, unless you infringe.

The ref has the ability to use empathy and discretion. Carley has never been known for having any empathy, in part because he has never played the game.
Just because your scrum is less strong should not mean your props get carded. The reality is the stronger pack are twisting and turning your props as much as they are trying to stay straight. The laws need amending to stop the stupid situation we are witnessing here.

I can’t work out how Ireland are still in this.

SA are awesome in the true sense of word, dont like them but you don’t often see a team with that amount of power.

But how do you then stop a front row taking it down every time they are under pressure? The scrum is part of the game and why shouldn’t a team benefit when theirs is so dominant?

To use the wing comparison from earlier, if you have a short winger who is constantly getting beaten to high balls so consistently start taking their opponent out in the air to compensate should they eventually get carded?

These are experienced Lions props - among the best in Britain. The Saffa machine is just stronger, they are getting their front foot ball, and you can't alter physics.
It's not the same as a winger repeatedly taking out his opposite man. It's the equivalent of getting driven back 10+m in every tackle.

No it’s not, they’re refusing to be pushed back because it will lead to a try so they’re taking it down knowing the sanction will be another scrum and another scrum and eventually they might get lucky. It’s a professional foul. If the ref doesn’t eventually give a yellow card what is the answer? Porter stayed up on the scrum when he came on despite the scrum getting shoved backwards but they managed to keep the ball.

The only way I can think of to overcome the issue is to not allow a scrum to be taken for a penalty but again you’re penalising a team for being good at scrummaging. Do we want it taken out of the game or turned into a rugby league style restart? The only reason Ireland are still in this game is because they’ve constantly given penalties away when under pressure both in scrums and open play. It’s been a terrible match for that reason.
