All teams are allowed to pass forwards under current interpretations. The ball must not leave your hands in a forward direction relative to you. What it is doing compared to the ground no longer has any relevance.

And Chessum was very lucky not to get a red card as there was no mitigation. When Austin calls a red against a tiger you know the officials have it wrong if they only give yellow.
