Calmer waters?

Different geography more like, as the North Sea can throw some fair temper tantrums.

If the weather was good, they'd head straight to Oostende. If the weather was not so good, they'd sprint across the channel at its narrowest point and then continue on along the coast. If the weather was really bad, they didn't run, but there were always foot passenger spaces on the ferry.

Inside, the jetfoils and seacats weren't too bad inside the passenger cabins - much the same as aircraft really. The hovercraft were just noisy full stop. But they sure were an exhilarating ride. :hyper:

Not just noisy but you couldn't see out of the windows because of the spray. Still, only a 35 minute crossing which was the obvious draw..

Anyone following HMS Queen Elizabeth as she sets off for sea trials? I thought she was sailing on the low tide this morning so I was on the Road Bridge waiting but she never moved. Then the bridge was cleared by the police and the footway and cycle path closed. Low tide is at 11.26 tonight so I expect she'll be going under the bridges then.

Yes I diverted through South Queensferry on my way home. Easy on the bike but motor traffic was backed up for miles around. I posted my pics here -

There's loads of far better pics from proper photographers on Twitter #QNLZatsea, including this one

Looks like the one that passed my window yesterday morning close enough to see the rows of aircraft on the deck, or was that my imagination?^_^
The crew are having a bit of shore leave just now.

There was supposed to be the first deck landing on her, 100 years to the day after the first ever aeroplane landing on a moving ship by a certain Sqaudron Commander Edwin Dunning. Sadly Dunning was killed a few days later when his Sopwith overshot and by the time they'd fished him out he had drowned.

The intended centenery landing didn't happen and they made do with a flypast. Bloody big ship though
