What a sad state of affairs when 10 years ago a punter could decide where he banked and had a choice. Now we've got very little choice

Lloyds, TSB, Bank of Scotland and Halifax, Intelligent Finance - Now the one group
Royal bank of Scotland, Natwest, Ulster Bank, Coutts, Adam and Co - Now all RBS
Clydesdale Bank, Yorkshire bank - National Australia Group

That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure if I dug about a bit there would be more and that's just the banking sector.
