I was trying to demonstrate the digital piano and digital audio workstation in my attic room to my stepdaughter but the kit wouldn't switch on.
I looked across the room and saw that the cordless phone whose base station/charger uses another power socket was not powered up either.
Clearly the power socket circuit breaker had popped out for some reason so I walked across the room, down the stairs, across the landing, down another flight of stairs, across the kitchen, down the steps into my cellar, across the cellar to the power board and checked the circuit breaker. It was okay.
Oh, maybe I had forgotten to switch the wall socket on in the attic. Damn!
I walked back across the cellar, up the steps to the kitchen, across that, up the stairs to the landing, across that, up the stairs to the attic, across that room and ... the power was switched on.
Ah, maybe the switches on the extension lead were switched off? No.
It was time for stepsprog to go and catch the train home so I escorted her to the station.
I came home and decided to recheck everything. Back down to the cellar. Circuit breaker ok. Trek back to the attic. Power switched on at socket - check. Power switches switched on at the other end of the extension lead - check. Piano switched on - check ...
Extension lead unplugged from wall socket - oh, check. Dehumidifier plugged in instead - oh, drat - check!
And as for the coincidentally also powered-down telephone ... a call to my sister revealed that she had turned it off because the red charging light had irritated her while she was trying to get to sleep in that room last week. She had forgotten to turn it back on!
That little lot annoyed me today!
