The 'Why' thread?

Why don't we have H & C carved into taps these days? Now it seems the teensiest bit of red or blue dots that wear-out. Maybe less of an issue for those folks at home - but a bloody nightmare elsewhere - like hotels, even our new Caravan has illegible tappage yo have to waste carried water to figure out whether you're gonna get hot or cold water.

Don't get me started on hotel shower controls.....

I think there was a thread, recently, on the "standardisation" (or otherwise) of the position of Hot and Cold taps, or, in the case of mixer taps, the position of the temperature control lever.

We recently stayed at an AirBnB with a shower that had the control lever installed upside down which didn't help as the red / blue markers were on the underside of said lever. Also with such mixer levers, it only takes the slightest knock to go from just right to 'kin hot or 'kin cold due to the apparent sensitivity of these things.
So what are we suppose to do in a shower; stand absolutely still to avoid knocking the mixer tap - ?
