I read the whole thread, just as I read pretty much everything in the forums I watch, thank you.

The tone of your reply goes a long way to demonstrating what the tone was like at the time though.

I wonder if the post would be accepted so much if They had joked with a post titled old codger swore at me today because I failed to use a bell...

Think about discrimination next time maybe? Ageism is a problem however you dress it up, that's my point. You can't post with a title like that and say you're not ageist.

When downhill skiing, the uphill skier ALWAYS has to yield to skiers in front of them:

1. People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them. People down the hill from yourself are not expected to turn their heads uphill to make sure they do not get in your way. YOU must yield to them. When coming up on skiers below you slow down, pattern them, plan your line, and then ski around them. However, be sure to give them a lot of space and I strongly recommend against passing them on the inside when on a trail’s edge, they could break out of their pattern and cut off your line forcing you to go off of the trail or worse.
   Remember, those people downhill from you have a responsibility to avoid those downhill from them. If everyone is playing by that rule all should be fine.

Common sense and should be applied to cycling.

Exactly the view I take. I don't like using a bell or calling out as I find it startles people, especially older people, so I simply hold back, we're sharing the path or carriageway, and they preceded me! Usually they sense your presence, acknowledge you and move to a side, to let you by, if not, wait!

Opinions mean nothing. Actual words do. Your opening post and title is ageist. There is no argument against, despite how you post since. Pick your words better next time maybe?

If you had been sexist, racist, homophobic or otherwise in your title and post, then it would not be tolerated. Ageism fits that bill too.

Ageism is unacceptable.
