I have a theory that it should be possible to record the same lap time in both directions on any racing circuit in any given vehicle.
However, I can't reason with myself whether or not this theory is correct. There are bound to be some corners that are faster in one direction than the other, but then there will be some that are slower. My hypothesis is that they will balance out over the course of a lap.
I know it's not exactly scientific, but I have tried this out on Gran Turismo and N4S on a console and can get to within 1/10th of a second in the opposite direction on any track - even on a silly track like Laguna Seca.
Has anyone got any good arguments why this is, or isn't technically possible (all other things like weather, car setup etc being equal) ?
Making my head hurt trying to work it out
