It was cheating and bad I know, but I wounder how many Irish fans would be on here saying that is really bad and sad if England had lost in that way.

Personaly its a shame because i so wanted the Irish to be there.

I have always been a keen tv football fan.And what amazes me is how did he think he would get away with it.Which he did with the Ref.
But cameras and pundits have caught him out.All those glory years with his club Arsenal. Will now be forgotten.
Will always be remembered as the cheat who robbed a bunch of hard working not entirely skillful players a chance on the biggest football stage.

Shame on him .

There is so much cheating in football it's crazy, the only way to reduce it is to penalise the players after the game. A 5 match ban would be suffice for diving, hand ball etc.
He said post game he did not do it intentionally, i say bollocks.

Well in the end it does/will destroy "the beautiful game" (I've seen plenty of unbeautiful ones). Don't also want to become a "hand of God" whinger. Ireland had enough chances over the 2 games to go through.. French goalkeeper made some good saves/French defence some good last ditch tackles.. so lets face it if we'd managed to take one of two of those Henry's handball wouldn't have mattered. If Ireland had gone through on a handball I doubt if we'd care. <-- that doesn't make it right but as the French say "C'est la vie".

Very unfair for Ireland to go out like that... at least Henry admits it was handball... he said "Ze bol 'it mah 'and... eet wurrz a 'andboll... but ah am nurt ze hreferee"

God, Didn't know you were fluent in French

I must say, I'm impressed by the fairness of the French Press in this little 'affaire'. This on glancing across Le Figaro's website:
Et la «main de Dieu» devint «main de grenouille»...
(apparently translated direct from the Belfast Telegraph). You don't need to be fluent in French to work that out!

It is a shame and you have to feel for the Irish - and for 'the beautiful game' - but I fear that with the stakes so high, it's only going to get worse. The geniuses of the game do seem particularly prone to it, from Maradonna thru' Ronaldo to Henry - football gods to a man, but terrible cheats toboot...
